For each workload, assess the following:

How much data do you need to store, and how fast is it growing? Total data volume determines storage capacity requirements and directly affects cost.

How often is the data accessed, and what latency is acceptable? Alibaba Cloud storage services are priced and optimized for different access tiers based on data access frequency and response time requirements.

IOPS and throughput requirements
Different storage types are optimized for different performance profiles—matching your workload to the right type avoids over-provisioning costs.

Data importance and retention
How critical is this data, and for how long must it be retained? Critical or regulated data requires durable storage with appropriate retention policies.

Data sensitivity and security requirements
Does the data contain sensitive or regulated information? Sensitive data must be protected against loss, corruption, and accidental or malicious modification. Data durability and security are equally important as storage costs.
