Container Service for Kubernetes:Netpila

Netpila is a container network system developed by Alibaba Cloud for cloud-native applications. Netpila uses a unified networking model to provide connections and network services. Netpila offers a consistent network experience across different container runtimes and node types (physical machines and virtual machines). This topic introduces Netpila and describes the release notes for Netpila.

Introduction

Netpila provides standard Container Network Interface (CNI) plug-ins, which can be seamlessly integrated with Kubernetes. You can use Netpila to connect containers in Kubernetes clusters or connect them to external services.

By default, Netpila is automatically installed when you create a Container Service for Kubernetes (ACK) Lingjun managed cluster. Netpila assigns a secondary private IP address to each pod on a physical machine in the ACK Lingjun managed cluster to allow the pods to communicate. After you use Netpila and elastic network interfaces (ENIs), pods on Lingjun nodes can forward packets without using tunneling technologies such as VXLAN. In addition, this mode also allows pods to communicate more efficiently than the VXLAN mode.
