Container Service for Kubernetes:Overview of accelerated data access

Last Updated:Mar 05, 2025

Introduction

Alibaba Cloud Container Service for Kubernetes (ACK) provides two data acceleration engines for enhanced cloud storage access: JindoFS and Elastic File Accelerator (EFC). This topic describes these two tools.

Accelerate OSS access with JindoFS

JindoFS is an in-memory distributed caching system designed to accelerate data access to Alibaba Cloud Object Storage Service (OSS). By caching frequently accessed data in local memory or high-performance storage, JindoFS significantly reduces latency and improves throughput. This solution is ideal for big data and AI scenarios such as Spark and TensorFlow workloads, optimizing data read efficiency. For detailed instructions, see Use JindoFS to accelerate access to OSS.

Accelerate NAS access with EFC

EFC is a distributed caching client optimized for Apsara File Storage NAS (NAS). It enhances parallel access performance through elastic scaling, zero-downtime upgrades, and stable and reliable data access. For detailed instructions, see Use EFC to accelerate access to NAS file systems.

Summary

These two features serve as critical data acceleration tools in ACK:

  • JindoFS: Specializes in OSS acceleration, optimized for big data and AI workloads.

  • EFC: Enhances NAS access for high-performance file storage.

Both tools improve data access efficiency, minimize latency, and accommodate large-scale data processing demands with flexible configurations and effective performance optimizations.
