Object Storage Service:Image styles

Last Updated:Jun 08, 2026

Create image styles in OSS to combine multiple processing operations—such as resizing, cropping, rotation, and watermarks—and apply them to images in a bucket.

Create a style

Each bucket supports up to 50 image styles, which apply only to images in that bucket. To create more, contact technical support.

OSS console

  1. Log on to the OSS console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Buckets. On the Buckets page, find and click the desired bucket.

  3. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Data Processing > IMG.

  4. On the IMG page, click Create Style.

  5. In the Create Style panel, configure the style by using one of the following methods.

    • Basic Settings: Use the GUI to select processing methods and configure the following parameters.

      Category

      Parameter

      Description

      Rule Name

      Rule Name

      The style name. Must be 1–63 characters: letters, digits, underscores (_), hyphens (-), and periods (.).

      Image

      format conversion

      Converts the image format. Select Original to keep the current format.

      Options: Original, jpg, jpeg, png, bmp, gif, webp, or tiff.

      progressive display

      Displays a blurry outline that gradually sharpens as the image loads.

      Note

      This feature takes effect only for images in JPG format.

      auto orientation

      Rotates the image according to its EXIF data before resizing.

      image quality

      Select an image quality option: Relative, Absolute, or Uncompressed.

      Quality transformation.

      Resizing

      Resize Type

      Select a resizing method: Do Not Use Thumbnail, Proportional Scale Down, Proportional Scale Up, or Fixed Width and Height.

      Effects

      Image brightness

      Drag the slider to adjust brightness.

      0 = original. Negative values darken the image; positive values brighten it.

      Image contrast

      Drag the slider to adjust contrast.

      0 = original. Negative values reduce contrast; positive values increase it.

      Image sharpen

      Improves image clarity.

      Enable sharpening, then drag the slider to adjust the level.

      Image blur

      Enable blurring, then drag the sliders to set the blur radius and standard deviation.

      Image rotation

      Drag the slider to set the rotation angle.

      Watermarking

      Watermarking

      Add an image watermark, a text watermark, or none.

    • Advanced Settings: Specify processing operations as a parameter string in the format image/action1,parame_value1/action2,parame_value2/.... Supported parameters: Image processing parameters.

      Example: image/resize,p_63/quality,q_90 resizes an image to 63% of its original size and sets relative quality to 90%.

      Note

      To combine image and text watermarks in one style, use Advanced Settings.

  6. Click OK.

SDKs

Use SDKs to create image styles. Examples for Python and Go:

Python

# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-
import oss2
from oss2.credentials import EnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider

# Obtain access credentials from environment variables. Before you run the sample code, make sure that the OSS_ACCESS_KEY_ID and OSS_ACCESS_KEY_SECRET environment variables are configured.
auth = oss2.ProviderAuthV4(EnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider())

# Specify the endpoint of the region where the bucket is located. For example, if the bucket is in the China (Hangzhou) region, set the endpoint to https://oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com.
endpoint = "https://oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com"
# Specify the region of the endpoint. Example: cn-hangzhou. This parameter is required if you use the V4 signature algorithm.
region = "cn-hangzhou"

# Replace examplebucket with the name of the bucket.
bucket = oss2.Bucket(auth, endpoint, "examplebucket", region=region)

# Specify the name of the image style, such as imagestyle.
style = 'imagestyle'
# Specify the operation of the image style, such as resizing the image to a width of 200 pixels.
content = 'image/resize,w_200'

# Create an image style.
result = bucket.put_bucket_style(style, content)
print('The style is created. The status code is: ' + str(result.status))

Go

package main

import (
	"fmt"
	"os"

	"github.com/aliyun/aliyun-oss-go-sdk/oss"
)

func main()  {
    // Obtain access credentials from environment variables. Before you run the sample code, make sure that the OSS_ACCESS_KEY_ID and OSS_ACCESS_KEY_SECRET environment variables are configured.
    provider, err := oss.NewEnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider()
    if err != nil {
        fmt.Println("Error:", err)
        os.Exit(-1)
    }

    // Create an OSSClient instance.
    // Specify the endpoint of the region in which the bucket is located. For example, if the bucket is located in the China (Hangzhou) region, set the endpoint to https://oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com. Specify your actual endpoint.
    // Specify the region in which the bucket is located. For example, if the bucket is located in the China (Hangzhou) region, set the region to cn-hangzhou. Specify the actual region.
    clientOptions := []oss.ClientOption{oss.SetCredentialsProvider(&provider)}
    clientOptions = append(clientOptions, oss.Region("yourRegion"))
    // Specify the version of the signature algorithm.
    clientOptions = append(clientOptions, oss.AuthVersion(oss.AuthV4))
    client, err := oss.New("yourEndpoint", "", "", clientOptions...)
    if err != nil {
    	    fmt.Println("Error:", err)
	    os.Exit(-1)
    }
    // Specify the name of the bucket. Example: examplebucket.
    bucketName := "examplebucket"
    // Specify the operation of the image style, such as scaling the source image down to 63% and setting the relative quality of the image to 90%.
    styleContent := "image/resize,p_63/quality,q_90"
    // Specify the name of the image style. Example: imagestyle.
    styleName := "imagestyle"
    err = client.PutBucketStyle(bucketName,styleName, styleContent)
    if err != nil {
        fmt.Println("Error:", err)
        os.Exit(-1)
    }
    fmt.Println("Bucket Style Set Success!")
}

ossutil

Use ossutil to create image styles. Install ossutil.

The following command creates an image style named imageStyle for the examplebucket bucket:

ossutil api put-style --bucket examplebucket --style-name imageStyle --style "{\"Content\":\"image/resize,p_50\"}"

put-style.

Style usage rules

After configuring an image style, apply it to process images through an image processing URL or an OSS SDK.

Important

If you use a style to process a dynamic image such as a GIF, add the /format,gif parameter to the style. Otherwise, the output may become static.

Use an image processing URL

Append the style to the image URL: http(s)//:BucketName.Endpoint/ObjectName?x-oss-process=style/<StyleName>. Example: https://oss-console-img-demo-cn-hangzhou-3az.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/example.jpg?x-oss-process=style/small.

A custom separator replaces ?x-oss-process=style/ for shorter URLs. For example, with an exclamation point (!) as the separator, the URL becomes http(s)//:BucketName.Endpoint/ObjectName!StyleName. Set custom separators.

Bind a custom domain to your bucket for even shorter URLs. For example, with example.com bound, the URL becomes https://example.com/example.jpg!small. Custom domains also enable online preview. Map custom domain names.

Use an OSS SDK

Use an OSS SDK to apply image styles. Examples for common languages follow. Other languages: SDK overview.

import com.aliyun.oss.common.auth.*;
