WUYING Workspace:Change the image of a cloud computer or cloud computer pool

Last Updated:Apr 26, 2024

If you want to replace the operating system of a cloud computer or a cloud computer pool, or you want to initialize a cloud computer, you can change the image of the cloud computer or cloud computer pool. This topic describes how to change the image of a regular cloud computer, cloud computer pool, or pooled cloud computer.

Background

Limits

  • You cannot change images in the following regions: China (Hong Kong), Australia (Sydney), and Japan (Tokyo).

  • You cannot change GPU images to non-GPU images, or vice versa. If a cloud computer is of the Enterprise Graphics type, you can use only a GPU image. If a cloud computer is of the non-Enterprise Graphics type, you can use only a non-GPU image.

  • When you change the image of a cloud computer, you can also change the system disk and data disk of the cloud computer. You need to only select an image that contains a data disk and select Simultaneously Replace Data Disk. If the capacity of the data disk contained in the selected image exceeds that of the original data disk of the cloud computer, you cannot change the original data disk.

  • When you change the image of a cloud computer pool or a pooled cloud computer, you can only initialize the original system disk by using the new image. You cannot change the original data disk.

Effects

  • By default, the system uses the new image to initialize the original system disk of a cloud computer. The data contained in the original system disk is cleared after the initialization. Snapshots created based on the original system disk become invalid. The system also deletes all snapshots related to the original system disk.

    Warning

After you change the image of a cloud computer, the software data and private data contained in the original system disk and data disk are cleared and cannot be recovered. Proceed with caution when you change an image.

  • When you change the image of a cloud computer pool, the cloud computers on which the new image takes effect depend on the specified scope. For more information, see Change the image of a cloud computer pool.

  • When you change the image of a pooled cloud computer, the system only changes the image of the cloud computer.

Impacts of OSs on data disks

Whether the operating system (OS) of the desired image is the same as that of the image used by a cloud computer determines how the data contained in the data disk is handled.

Operation

Same OS

Different OSs

Change the image of a regular cloud computer

If the desired image contains a data disk, you can select Simultaneously Replace Data Disk based on your business requirements.

  • If you want to simultaneously change the original data disk of the cloud computer, select Simultaneously Replace Data Disk. In this case, the original data disk of the cloud computer is replaced by the data disk contained in the desired image. Snapshots created based on the original data disk are automatically deleted.

  • If you do not want to simultaneously change the original data disk of the cloud computer, do not select Simultaneously Replace Data Disk. In this case, the original data disk of the cloud computer remains unchanged. Snapshots created based on the original data disk can be used as expected.

However, the data contained in the original data disk of the cloud computer is still cleared, and snapshots created based on the original data disk are automatically deleted.

Change the image of a cloud computer pool or pooled cloud computer

The data contained in the original data disk of the pooled cloud computer is retained, and snapshots created based on the original data disk can be used as expected.

The data contained in the original data disk of the pooled cloud computer is cleared, and snapshots created based on the original data disk are automatically deleted.

Prerequisites

Change the image of a cloud computer

  1. Log on to the WUYING Workspace (Pro Edition) console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Resources & Terminals > Cloud Computers.

  3. In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region.

  4. On the Cloud Computers page, use one of the following methods to change the image based on your business requirements:

    • Change the image of a single cloud computer: Find the desired cloud computer and click the ⋮ icon in the Actions column. Then, select Change Image.

    • Change the images of multiple cloud computers: Select the desired cloud computers. In the lower part of the Cloud Computers page, choose More > Change Image.

  5. In the Change Image panel, select the desired image in the Image section and click Confirm.

    Note
    • You can use one of the following fields as a filter to search for the desired image: Image Type and Image ID.

    • If the selected image contains a data disk, and you want to simultaneously change the original data disk of the cloud computer, select Simultaneously Replace Data Disk.

  6. In the message that appears, click Confirm.

During the image change process, the cloud computer enters the Changing state. When the status of the cloud computer changes from Changing to Running, the original image is changed. You can connect to the cloud computer to check whether the new image takes effect.

Change the image of a cloud computer pool

A cloud computer pool is a collection of cloud computers. When you change the image of the pool, you can specify a scope of cloud computers on which the new image takes effect.

  1. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Resources & Terminals > Cloud Computer Pools.

  2. In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region.

  3. On the Cloud Computer Pools page, use one of the following methods to change the image based on the number of cloud computer pools whose images you want to change:

    1. A single cloud computer pool: Find the desired cloud computer pool and click the ⋮ icon in the Actions column. Then, select Change Image.

    2. Multiple cloud computer pools: Select the desired cloud computer pools and click Change Image.

      Note

You can change the images of cloud computer pools that are in the Running state.

  4. In the Change Image panel, select the scope of pooled cloud computers whose images you want to change.

    • If you set the Scope parameter to New Cloud Computer (default), new pooled cloud computers use the new image. This configuration does not affect existing pooled cloud computers. This configuration takes effect when specific pooled cloud computers are still running or when no pooled cloud computers exist.

    • If you set the Scope parameter to Existing and new cloud computers are in the cloud computer pool, existing and new pooled cloud computers use the new image. This configuration takes effect only when all pooled cloud computers are in the Stopped state.

  5. In the Change Image panel, select the desired image and click Confirm.

    Important

If you enable the user data roaming feature for the cloud computer pool whose image you want to change, the new image must meet the following requirements to ensure a successful image replacement:

    • The OS of the new image is Windows Server 2019. This is because only Windows Server 2019 cloud computers support the user data roaming feature.

    • The new image must be a system image whose version is V1.6.0 or later, the new image is created based on the system image. This is because cloud computers that are created by using such image support the data roaming feature.

  6. In the message that appears, click Confirm.

After you change the image, find the cloud computer pool on the Cloud Computer Pools page and click the pool ID. On the page that appears, click the Basic Information tab and view the value of the Image Name parameter to check whether the new image takes effect.

Change the image of a pooled cloud computer

You can also change the image of a cloud computer in a cloud computer pool.

  1. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Resources & Terminals > Cloud Computer Pools.

  2. In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region.

  3. On the Cloud Computer Pools page, find the desired cloud computer pool and click the pool ID.

  4. On the Cloud Computer Information tab, find the desired pooled cloud computer and click the ⋮ icon in the Actions column. Then, select Change Image.

  5. In the Change Image panel, select the desired image in the Image section and click Confirm.

  6. In the message that appears, click Confirm.

During the image change process, the cloud computer enters the Changing state. When the status of the cloud computer changes from Changing to Running, the original image is changed. You can connect to the cloud computer to check whether the new image takes effect.
