Elastic Compute Service:Billing

Last Updated:May 06, 2025

This topic describes the billable items and billing methods for dedicated block storage clusters.

Note

Dedicated Block Storage Cluster is currently available in the following regions: China (Hangzhou), China (Shanghai), China (Beijing), China (Zhangjiakou), China (Ulanqab), China (Shenzhen), China (Heyuan), Indonesia (Jakarta), Germany (Frankfurt), and China South 1 Finance.

Billable items

Fee for a dedicated block storage cluster = Cluster capacity × Subscription duration × Unit price of the disk category. The following table describes the billable items.

Billable item

Description

Cluster capacity

The cluster capacity is charged by TiB. If you create a dedicated block storage cluster in the Elastic Compute Service (ECS) console, the system converts GiB into TiB based on the following formula: 1 TiB = 1,024 GiB.

Subscription duration

The subscription duration ranges from six months to three years. Specific prices are displayed on the buy page in the ECS console.

Unit price of the disk category

The categories of disks that can be created vary based on the types of clusters. The price of a dedicated disk in a dedicated block storage cluster is double the price of the public disk of the same category. Specific prices are displayed on the buy page in the ECS console.

  • Enterprise SSDs (ESSDs) at performance level 0 (PL0 ESSDs) can be created in basic dedicated block storage clusters.

  • PL1 ESSDs can be created in performance dedicated block storage clusters.

Billing method

Dedicated block storage clusters support only the subscription billing method.

Billing for extending the cluster capacity

After a dedicated block storage cluster is extended, the expiration time of the added capacity is the same as that of the cluster. The capacity expansion fee = Added capacity × Remaining subscription duration of the cluster × Unit price of the disk category.

For example, a dedicated block storage cluster with a capacity of 60 TiB expires on December 31, 2021, and you extend the cluster capacity by 12 TiB on July 1, 2021. The remaining subscription duration of the cluster is six months. The capacity expansion fee is calculated by using the following formular: Capacity expansion fee = 12 × 6 × Unit price of the disk category.

Note
  • If the remaining subscription duration of the cluster is not an integer number of months (for example, 40 days), the capacity expansion fee is calculated by using the following formular: Capacity expansion fee = Added capacity × Remaining subscription duration of the cluster (40/30 = 1.33 months) × Unit price of the disk category.

  • If the remaining subscription duration of the cluster is less than one month, you cannot extend the cluster capacity. You must renew the cluster to ensure that the available time is more than one month before you can extend the cluster capacity.

Billing for migrating a disk

After a disk is migrated, the billing changes as follows:

  • After the disk is migrated to a dedicated block storage cluster, the billing of the disk follows the billing method of the dedicated block storage cluster. The disk itself is not billed.

  • After the disk in a dedicated block storage cluster is migrated to the public cloud, the billing of the disk follows the pay-as-you-go billing method of disks in the public cloud.

Renewal

Dedicated block storage clusters support manual renewal and auto-renewal.

  • For manual renewal, you can select a renewal duration ranging from one month to three years.

  • For auto-renewal, the system automatically renews the cluster based on your subscription duration. For example, if you select a subscription duration of 12 months when you purchase a cluster, the system automatically renews the cluster for 12 months each time.

Handle disk resources on expiration

Before a dedicated block storage cluster expires, the Elastic Block Storage (EBS) console prompts you to migrate disk resources.

  • If you do not want to renew the cluster on expiration or retain disk data, wait for the cluster to expire. Then, the disks are automatically released.

  • If you do not want to renew the cluster on expiration and want to retain disk data, migrate the disks from the dedicated block storage cluster to the public cloud in the Elastic Block Storage console. For more information, see Migrate disks into or out of dedicated block storage clusters.
