Enterprise Distributed Application Service:Cloud service integration

Last Updated:Jun 27, 2023

Enterprise Distributed Application Service (EDAS) is an end-to-end PaaS platform that is integrated with multiple Alibaba Cloud services to manage applications. EDAS provides various features at multiple layers for applications deployed therein. Cloud services can be integrated into EDAS in two forms: services and built-in components.

Overview of integrated cloud services

EDAS can be integrated with cloud services to provide features such as infrastructure management, service governance, monitoring, O&M, and permission management.

Cloud services can be integrated into EDAS in two forms: services and built-in components.

  • Service integration: A cloud service is integrated into EDAS as an independent service. You can manage the resources and features that are provided by the cloud service in its own console instead of the EDAS console.

  • Component integration: A cloud service is integrated into EDAS as a built-in component of EDAS. You can manage the resources and features that are provided by the cloud service in the EDAS console.

Service integration

The following table describes the cloud services that can be integrated into EDAS as independent services.

Scenario

Cloud service

Feature

Billing

Infrastructure management

Virtual Private Cloud (VPC)

Isolates networks for clusters and applications to improve application security.

You must first create a VPC. You are separately charged for VPC and EDAS.

Container Service for Kubernetes (ACK)

Provides a Kubernetes environment for EDAS.

You must first create an ACK cluster. You are separately charged for ACK and EDAS.

Elastic Compute Service (ECS)

Provides an ECS environment for EDAS.

You can create an ECS instance in the ECS console and then import the ECS instance to the EDAS console or purchase an ECS instance in the EDAS console. You are separately charged for ECS and EDAS.

Express Connect

Provides connections over Express Connect circuits for your hybrid cloud.

You must first create a connection. You are separately charged for Express Connect and EDAS.

Microservice governance

Microservices Engine (MSE)

Manages registration and configuration centers, such as open source Nacos, Eureka, and ZooKeeper, and provides gateways for microservices.

You must first create an instance. You are separately charged for MSE and EDAS.

Service Mesh (ASM)

Allows you to deploy applications that are compiled in different programming languages.

The cloud service is free of charge.

Application O&M

Log Service

Collects log files for applications.

You must first activate the cloud service. You are separately charged for Log Service and EDAS.

Server Load Balancer (SLB)

Provides load balancing for applications.

You must first create an instance. You are separately charged for SLB and EDAS.

Auto Scaling

Provides auto scaling for applications.

The cloud service is free of charge. You are separately charged for EDAS and the resources that are required by Auto Scaling, such as ECS instances and SLB instances.

Permission management

Resource Access Management (RAM)

Allows you to manage permissions in EDAS.

The cloud service is free of charge. By default, this service is activated.

Resource Management

Allows you to manage permissions in EDAS by using resource groups.

The cloud service is free of charge. By default, this service is activated.

Component integration

The following table describes the cloud services that can be integrated into EDAS as components.

Microservice governance

Application High Availability Service

Performs throttling and degradation on applications.

You must first activate the cloud service. You are separately charged for Application High Availability Service and EDAS.

Performance Testing (PTS)

Provides stress testing for applications.

The cloud service is free of charge.

Application monitoring

Application Real-Time Monitoring Service (ARMS)

Provides the monitoring feature for applications.

  • The features provided by the component that is integrated into EDAS are free of charge.

  • If you need to use all monitoring features of ARMS, you must enable advanced monitoring. You are separately charged for the advanced monitoring feature.

Managed Service for Prometheus (Prometheus)

Provides the monitoring feature for Kubernetes clusters and applications that are compiled in different programming languages.

The features provided by the component that is integrated into EDAS are free of charge.

Managed Service for OpenTelemetry

Provides the trace query feature for applications that are compiled in different programming languages.

The features provided by the component that is integrated into EDAS are free of charge.

Application O&M

SchedulerX

Enables task scheduling for applications.

The cloud service is free of charge.

Application Configuration Management

Provides configuration management for applications.

Note

Application Configuration Management is deprecated, but the Application Configuration Management features provided in EDAS are not affected.

The cloud service is free of charge.
