How to Set up Alibaba Cloud ApsaraDB for MongoDB for Your NoSQL Database Requirements

What Is ApsaraDB for MongoDB?

Alibaba Cloud ApsaraDB for MongoDB is a secure and elastically scalable MongoDB database service. The service is relatively easy-to-set up. Alibaba Cloud handles most of the database server administration tasks, letting you focus on the core functioning of your applications.

Alibaba Cloud offers a two-month Enterprise free trial to set up a new ApsaraDB for MongoDB.

The free trial features database storage of up to 20 GB and supports the latest MongoDB versions, deploying your instance in a three-node cluster mode that supports replica sets and sharding architectures.

## ApsaraDB for MongoDB Features

Flexible Architecture: ApsaraDB for MongoDB supports replica sets for your MongoDB database architecture. Multiple replica sets enable your applications to have built-in automatic failover, load balancing database requests, and elastic scaling.
Automated Backup and Recovery: ApsaraDB for MongoDB enables the automatic backing up of data at multiple intervals. This ensures business continuity by enabling you to restore your data to the available checkpoints.
Anti-DDOS: ApsaraDB for MongoDB is built with Anti-DDOS capabilities to ensure traffic is monitored in real-time to filter legitimate traffic from non-legitimate traffic. This works with IP address whitelisting to provide access from only the allowed locations.
Integration with Data Transmission Service: ApsaraDB for MongoDB supports the transmission of data between on-premises databases and cloud databases. The service also supports data synchronization among multiple ApsaraDB for MongoDB instances.
Enhanced Operations and Management Capabilities: ApsaraDB for MongoDB provides an easy to use monitoring platform to analyze CPU Utilization, IOPS, connections, and disk space. This feature allows you to monitor multiple ApsaraDB for MongoDB instances within a single control plane. Additionally, you can easily perform database kernel version management.

Setting up an Alibaba Cloud ApsaraDB for MongoDB

Step 1: On the Alibaba Cloud Console, access the ApsaraDB for MongoDB service under the NoSQL Databases section:

Step 2: On the ApsaraDB for MongoDB console, click Create a replica set instance:

Note: A replica set in MongoDB is a group of MongoDB processes that maintain the same data set. Replica sets provide redundancy and high availability for your MongoDB/NoSQL database requirements.

Step 3: Select the Product type, Region for your instance, Zone, and Database version, and the following settings are available by default:

Step 4: Select the VPC, Specification for the instance, Storage, Username, Password, and the number of instances you would like to set up. Click Buy:

Step 5: Accept the terms of service and click Activate Now:

Step 6: After a few minutes, the newly created instance will become available in the ApsaraDB for MongoDB console. Select the Database instance:

Step 7: On the Log On button, select the primary instance:

Note: You need to apply for a Public Connection String to access your instances from the public Internet. We recommend only allowing private connections to database instances.

Step 8: The Data Management Service will load up. Select your Database, insert the required username and password credentials, and click Login:

Step 9: Finally, you can start working with your instance from within DMS:
