HealthBlocks’ Blockchain-Based Platform Helps Medical Practitioners Reduce Their Administrative Workload

Medical data is key to the diagnosis of medical conditions to improve clinical decision-making and enhance patient outcomes. But the collection and management of medical data, including record keeping, can be a tedious process for healthcare professionals.

For example, electronic health records (EHRs) are health information often used by doctors to keep track of their patients’ conditions. On average, medical professionals would need to spend around 16 minutes to use or update an EHR for a single patient. Also, in a 2018 survey of 20,000 physicians, 70% of respondents said they spent ten hours or more on paperwork and administrative tasks each week.

To address this problem, Philippine-based startup HealthBlocks has come up with HealthBlocks 360, a digital platform that aims to relieve healthcare practitioners of their administrative burden.

Notably, HealthBlocks 360 tackles the issue of poor electronic health records (EHRs) usability, which is a leading driver of burnout for doctors. With an easy-to-use interface, the platform allows its users to customize and improve the medical office workflow.

HealthBlocks 360 can also plan and schedule patient appointments and track clinic inventory and finances, allowing its users to cut down time spent on internal administrative processes.

The cloud-based, real-time clinic management system can be accessed from a wide range of devices, including smartphones. Built on blockchain technology, HealthBlocks 360 also ensures that all personal health information is processed and stored securely.

Led by Grace Anne Agustin-Mendoza (CEO) and James Tristan Mendoza (director), HealthBlocks is a venture-backed subsidiary of MaroonStudios, a software company from Quezon City, Manila. The startup was founded in 2018 after being named a top five winner of the ASEAN’s Next Great Idea competition, which was organized by the Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC), Uber, and Digi in 2017. HealthBlocks was also runner-up at the UAE Blockchain Virtual GovHack, which was held in the same year in Dubai.

By reducing the administrative burden of healthcare practitioners, HealthBlocks aspires to help health professionals focus on providing clinical care.
