This topic describes how to resolve the issue that the message "To sign in remotely, you need the right to sign in through Remote Desktop Services" appears when you connect to a Windows Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance by using Remote Desktop.

Problem description

When you connect to an instance by using Remote Desktop as the Administrator user, The message prompts that to log on remotely, you need permission to log on through Remote Desktop Services.

Cause

The local security policy of the Windows instance prohibits the Administrator user to connect to the instance from a Remote Desktop client.

Solution

Perform the following operations to resolve the issue:

  1. Connect to the Windows instance by using Virtual Network Computing (VNC).

    For more information, see Connect to a Windows instance by using a password.

  2. Click the image icon, open Control Panel, and then select System and Security.

  3. In Control Panel, choose System and Security > Administrative Tools and double-click Local Security Policy.

  4. In the Local Security Policy window, choose Local Policies > User Rights Assignment. In the Policies directory, double-click Deny log on through Remote Desktop Services.

  5. In the Deny log on through Remote Desktop Services Properties dialog box, delete the Administrator user and click OK.
