Elastic Desktop Service:Use tags to manage cloud computers

Last Updated:Jun 18, 2024

A tag is a key-value pair that consists of a tag key and tag value. Tags are used to identify resources. You can use tags to group and manage cloud computers. Tags help you search for and perform batch operations on cloud computers with ease.

Background

As the number of cloud computers increases in an enterprise, cloud computers become difficult to manage. In this case, you can bind tags to cloud computers to streamline management. Then, you can filter cloud computers by tag to batch perform operations in subsequent O&M. You can bind up to 20 tags to a cloud computer and specify the tag key and value for each tag based on your business requirements. The following table provides examples on tag keys and values from different dimensions.

Dimension

Tag key

Tag value

Organization

department

The department name. Examples: MD and FD.

Business

project

The project name. Examples: projectA and projectB.

Job position

position

The position name. Examples: designer and programmer.

Take note of the following items when you use tags:

  • Each tag consists of a tag key and tag value. The tag key must be unique globally. For example, you have bound the department:MD tag to a cloud computer. If you want to add another tag department:FD to the cloud computer, the previous tag becomes invalid and are unbound from it.

  • After a tag is unbound from a cloud computer and you no longer bind the tag to other resources, the tag is automatically deleted.

  • Tags in a region are unique.

For more information, see Best practices for tags.

Bind a tag to a cloud computer

You can bind tags to cloud computers upon or after purchase. This section describes how to bind tags after you purchase cloud computers.

  1. Log on to the Elastic Desktop Service console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Resources & Terminals > Cloud Computers.

  3. In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region.

  4. On the Cloud Computers page, choose one of the following methods to proceed:

    1. Single operation: Find the cloud computer to which you want to bind a tag and click Edit in the Tag column.

    2. Batch operation: Select multiple cloud computers to which you want to bind tags. In the lower part of the Cloud Computers page, choose More > Bind Tag.

  5. In the Edit Tag dialog box, select or enter a tag key and value, and click Confirm.

Filter cloud computers by tag

After you bind tags to cloud computers, you can use tags to filter cloud computers that meet your business requirements.

  1. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Resources & Terminals > Cloud Computers.

  2. In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region.

  3. On the Cloud Computers page, click Tag filtering.

  4. In the dialog box that appears, select a tag key and value, and then click Confirm.

    Note

If you specify only a tag key without any value, all cloud computers to which the tag key is bound are filtered.
