What is auto-renewal?

If you plan to use subscription-based resources long-term, you can enable auto-renewal. When auto-renewal is enabled, the system automatically renews your resources before they expire. This avoids manual renewals and prevents service disruption or data loss from an expired subscription.

Most Alibaba Cloud products that use a subscription billing model support auto-renewal. Products that support this feature have an Enable Auto-Renewal button on their page in the Renewal Management console.

Auto-renewal rules

• The product must be purchased using a subscription billing model.

• The auto-renewal billing date varies by product. For most cloud products, billing for auto-renewal begins 9 days before the expiration date. For some Domain Names & Websites (HiChina) products, billing begins 15 days before the expiration date. For details, refer to the description on the Enable Auto-Renewal page for your product in the Renewal Management console.

  Important

  On the Alibaba Cloud International Site (alibabacloud.com), services are typically suspended 15 days after expiration. Therefore, the system attempts to bill for auto-renewal on the following days: 3 days before expiration, 1 day before expiration, the day of expiration, 6 days after expiration, and 14 days after expiration.

• Ensure you have a sufficient account balance, credits, or a voucher to cover the renewal fee.

• If your instance is due to expire the next day, you cannot set up auto-renewal and must renew it manually.

• If you manually renew a resource before its scheduled auto-renewal billing date, the system recalculates the next auto-renewal date based on the new expiration date.

• You can use coupons for auto-renewal.

Set up auto-renewal

1. Log on to the Alibaba Cloud Console. In the top navigation bar, hover over Expenses and click Renewal Management in the drop-down menu.

2. In the navigation pane on the left, select the cloud product for which you want to configure auto-renewal. In the resource list, find the one you want and click Enable Auto-Renewal. Alternatively, select the checkboxes for multiple resources and click Enable Auto-Renewal below the resource list.

3. In the Enable Auto-Renewal dialog box, select an auto-renewal Duration (the length of each renewal period), then click Enable Auto-Renewal.

Modify or cancel auto-renewal

1. Log on to the Alibaba Cloud Console. In the top navigation bar, hover over Expenses and click Renewal Management in the drop-down menu.

2. Find the resource and click Modify Auto-Renewal in the Actions column.

3. In the Auto-Renewal Settings dialog box, modify the auto-renewal Duration (the length of each renewal period) or cancel auto-renewal, then click Confirm.
