If you no longer need a resource group, you can delete it. The default resource group cannot be deleted.
Prerequisites
Before you delete a resource group, ensure that it contains no resources. If it does, you must first transfer the resources to another resource group. For more information, see Transfer resources across resource groups.
Procedure
Log in to the Resource Management console.
On the Resource Group page, click the name of the target resource group.
On the Settings tab, click Delete.
In the Delete Resource Group dialog box, click OK.
WarningA deleted resource group cannot be recovered. Exercise caution when performing this operation.
Results
After you complete these steps, the system begins to check for any resources within the resource group. This process can take up to three days. During this period, the state of the resource group is Deleting.
While a resource group is in the Deleting state, the system renames its identifier. The new identifier follows the format:
<original-identifier>-<resource-group-id>-<deletion-date>. For example, if a resource group with the identifierTestGroupis deleted on August 12, 2021, its identifier is renamed toTestGroup-rg-aekzcobqwwj****-20210812.If the system detects resources within a resource group in the Deleting state, the deletion fails and the group's state changes to Failed to Delete. The identifier then reverts to its original value. However, if the original identifier is already in use by another resource group, the temporary identifier is retained. You must then remove the resources from the group and attempt to delete it again.
A resource group in the Deleting state does not count towards your resource group quota.
