This document lists all available instance types for standard primary ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL instances on the original x86 architecture. Use this reference to select the right combination of CPU, memory, connections, IOPS, and storage for your workload. Instance types are organized by RDS edition and instance family.
For more information about the differences between standard and YiTian product types, see Product types.
Before you begin
Keep the following points in mind when selecting an instance type:
Availability: Some instance types may no longer be available. You can select only the instance types that are available on the ApsaraDB RDS buy page. The supported instance types vary based on regions, and the instance types displayed on the buy page shall prevail. If you cannot select the required instance type when you change the specifications of an RDS instance, the instance type is not supported in that region.
Serverless instances: The resources of RDS for MySQL Serverless instances are measured by RCUs instead of CPU cores and memory. However, the instance type codes of these instances keep the same format as other RDS instances to avoid compatibility issues. The instance type codes for RDS for MySQL Serverless instances include
mysql.n2.serverless.1c(instances running Basic Edition) andmysql.n2.serverless.2c(instances running High-availability Edition).Standard SSD deprecation: The standard SSD storage type is no longer available for purchase for some RDS instances. You can select the Enterprise SSD (ESSD) storage type that delivers high performance. For more information, see [EOS/Discontinuation] End of sale for the standard SSD storage type for specific database engines in ApsaraDB RDS from July 01, 2022.
Maximum connections: The maximum number of connections in this topic indicates the maximum number of processes that can be connected to the RDS instance at a time.
Public bandwidth: The public bandwidth of an RDS instance cannot be adjusted.
Quick reference: instance families
| Instance family | Description | Scenarios |
|---|---|---|
| General-purpose | Utilizes resource multiplexing to balance cost and performance stability. Does not guarantee maximum IOPS or maximum I/O bandwidth. | Application scenarios that have low requirements for performance stability or require a balance between performance and cost. |
| Dedicated | Dedicates most resources to ensure long-term performance stability. Performance is not affected by other instances on the same physical machine. | Scenarios in which the database is used as a core system. |
| Dedicated host | Fully dedicates all resources of a physical server. This is the top-tier configuration of the dedicated instance family. Supported only by instances that use Premium Local SSDs. | Scenarios in which the database is a core system, such as in finance, e-commerce, government, and large- to medium-sized Internet business. |
For more information about instance families, see Instance families.

Phased-out ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL instance types
The following table lists phased-out ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL instance types. These instance types have the following restrictions:
You cannot select a phased-out instance type when you create an RDS instance.
You can upgrade phased-out instance types to some available instance types.
You cannot generate an order for an RDS instance that uses a phased-out instance type. For example, you cannot generate an order to change the storage capacity of an RDS instance that uses a phased-out instance type.
We recommend that you use the most recent instance type. For more information about how to change the storage capacity of an RDS instance, see Change instance configurations.
Phased-out instance types cannot support some new features. We recommend that you upgrade a phased-out instance type to the most recent instance type.
