If you have a subscription RDS Custom instance, you can renew it at any time before it expires. Renewing an instance extends its usage period and prevents it from being released.
Renewal methods
Manual renewal
You can manually renew a subscription instance before it expires or within seven days after expiration to extend its usage period.
Auto-renewal
The first automatic payment is attempted at 08:00, three days before the instance expires. If the payment fails, the system retries once a day until the expiration date or until the payment succeeds.
ImportantMake sure that your Alibaba Cloud account has a sufficient balance to avoid a renewal failure. If the automatic payment attempts fail, you must renew the instance manually and promptly to prevent service interruptions and data loss.
Precautions
If you enable auto-renewal and then manually renew an instance before the automatic payment date, the system will still automatically renew the instance before its next expiration date.
The auto-renewal feature takes effect on the following day. If your instance expires on the following day, you must renew it manually to avoid business interruptions.
When you renew an RDS Custom instance, attached subscription disks are also renewed. Pay-as-you-go disks are not affected.
NoteA disk renewal failure does not affect the renewal of the RDS Custom instance.

Enable auto-renewal for a new instance
When you create an RDS Custom instance, you can Enable Auto-renewal on the instance creation page.

After you enable auto-renewal, the system sets a default auto-renewal period, which is also known as the renewal duration. The default auto-renewal period is the same as the initial subscription duration. For example, if you purchase an instance on a monthly basis, the auto-renewal period is one month. The system automatically renews the instance for one month before each expiration.
Enable auto-renewal for an existing instance
Log on to the RDS console.
In the upper-right corner of the console, choose to go to the Renewal Management page.
On the Manual or Nonrenewal tab, find the target instance using the search and filter features. You can enable auto-renewal for a single instance or for multiple instances in a batch:

In the dialog box that appears, select an Auto-renewal Period and click Auto Renewal.
NoteAfter you enable auto-renewal, the system automatically renews the instance based on the Auto-renewal Period that you selected. For example, if you select an Auto-renewal Period of three months, the fee for three months is charged for each auto-renewal.
For multiple instances:
Select the target instances and click Enable Auto Renewal at the bottom of the page.
In the dialog box that appears, select an Unified Auto Renewal Cycle and click Auto Renewal.
