:Renew an instance

Last Updated:Jun 20, 2026

You can renew a subscription RDS Custom instance anytime before it expires. This extends its service period and prevents its release.

Renewal methods

  • Manual renewal

You can manually renew a subscription instance before it expires, or within 7 days after expiration, to extend its service period.

  • Auto-renewal

The system attempts the first automatic payment at 08:00 (UTC+8) three days before the instance expires. If the payment fails, the system retries daily until the instance expires or the payment succeeds.

    Important

Make sure that your Alibaba Cloud account has a sufficient balance to avoid a renewal failure. If automatic payments fail, manually renew the instance promptly to prevent service interruption and potential data loss.

Usage notes

  • If you manually renew an instance that has auto-renewal enabled, the system still performs the scheduled auto-renewal before the next expiration date.

  • Auto-renewal settings take effect the next day. If your instance expires tomorrow, you must renew it manually to prevent business interruption.

  • Renewing an RDS Custom instance also renews its attached subscription disks. Pay-as-you-go disks are not affected.

    Note

A disk renewal failure does not affect the renewal of the RDS Custom instance.

Manually renew an instance

  1. Log on to the RDS console. In the navigation pane on the left, click RDS Custom > Custom Instances, and then select a region at the top of the page.

  2. In the Actions column for the target instance, choose More > Renew.

Alternatively, on the Basic Information page of the instance, click Renew next to Expiration Time.

  3. On the renewal page, select a Renewal Duration and click Pay Now.

Enable auto-renewal

For new instances

You can enable auto-renewal on the instance creation page when you create an RDS Custom instance.

At the bottom of the instance creation page, select the Enable auto-renewal checkbox.

When you enable auto-renewal, the system sets the auto-renewal period to match your initial subscription duration. For example, if you purchase a monthly instance, the auto-renewal period is set to one month, and the system renews it monthly before expiration.

For existing instances

  1. Log on to the RDS console.

  2. In the upper-right corner of the console, choose Billing > Renewal Management to go to the renewal management page.

  3. Use the search and filter features to find the target instance on the Manual renewal or Non-renewal tab. You can enable auto-renewal for a single instance or for multiple instances in a batch:

    • Single instance

      1. In the Actions column, click Enable auto-renewal.

      2. In the dialog box that appears, select an auto-renewal period and click Enable auto-renewal.

        Note

After you enable auto-renewal, the system will automatically renew the service based on the auto-renewal period that you select. For example, if you select a 3-month auto-renewal period, you will be charged for three months at each renewal.

    • Multiple instances

Select the target instances and click Enable auto-renewal at the bottom of the list.

    • In the dialog box that appears, select an auto-renewal period and click Enable auto-renewal.

Modify or cancel auto-renewal

  1. Log on to the RDS console.

  2. In the upper-right corner of the console, choose Billing > Renewal Management to go to the renewal management page.

  3. Use the search and filter features to find the target instance on the Auto-renewal tab.

  4. Modify or cancel auto-renewal for the instance.

    • Modify the auto-renewal period: In the Actions column, click Modify.

    • Disable Auto-renewal: Click Do Not Renew on the right or Restore Manual Renewal.
