:Manage tags

Last Updated:Jun 20, 2026

If you have many RDS Custom instances, use tags to categorize and manage them. Each tag is a key-value pair that helps you classify instances in greater detail.

Limitations

  • Each instance can have up to 20 tags. All tag keys must be unique. If you add a tag with an existing key, the new tag overwrites the old one.

  • You can attach tags to up to 50 instances at once.

  • Tags are specific to each region.

  • A tag is automatically deleted when it is no longer attached to any instance.

  • System tags, which start with theacs: prefix, are automatically created by the system. You can view system tags, but you cannot edit or detach them.

Attach tags

  1. Log on to the RDS console. In the navigation pane on the left, choose RDS Custom > Custom Instances. Then, select a region from the top navigation bar.

  2. Attach tags to instances.

    • To attach tags to a single instance: In the Tags column of the target instance, click the image icon, and then click Edit.

    • To attach tags to one or more instances: Select the instances to which you want to attach tags, and then click Edit Tag at the bottom of the page.

  3. On the Edit Tag page, enter a Tag Key and a Tag Value, and then click OK.

Filter instances by tag

  1. Log on to the RDS console. In the navigation pane on the left, choose RDS Custom > Custom Instances. Then, select a region from the top navigation bar.

  2. Click Filter by Tag above the instance list to filter instances by Key and Value.

To remove the filter, click Clear Filter.

Detach tags

  1. Log on to the RDS console. In the navigation pane on the left, choose RDS Custom > Custom Instances. Then, select a region from the top navigation bar.

  2. Detach tags from instances.

    Note

System tags are view-only and cannot be detached.

    • To detach tags from a single instance

      1. In the Tags column of the target instance, click the image icon, and then click Edit.

      2. Click the image icon next to the tag that you want to detach, and then click OK.

    • To detach tags from one or more instances

      1. Select the instances from which you want to detach tags, and then click Batch Unbinding Tag at the bottom of the page.

      2. On the Batch Detach Tags page, select the tags that you want to detach.
