PolarDB:[Announcement] Network fee adjustment for the Global Database Network (GDN) feature

Last Updated:Dec 31, 2025

To improve the stability and performance of the Global Database Network (GDN) feature provided by PolarDB for MySQL, we will optimize the network architecture for certain cross-region data synchronization scenarios and start charging network fees for GDN.

Effective time

00:00:00, April 01, 2026 (Singapore Time)

Details

GDN will charge fees for cross-region data transmission based on the regions of your primary and secondary clusters. The rules are as follows:

  • Free of charge:

Your primary and secondary clusters are both deployed either in regions in the Chinese mainland, or in regions outside the Chinese mainland, such as China (Hong Kong).

    • The primary and secondary clusters are both in regions in the Chinese mainland. For example, the primary cluster is in the China (Chengdu) region and the secondary cluster is in the China (Shenzhen) or China (Hangzhou) region.

    • The primary and secondary clusters are both in regions outside the Chinese mainland. For example, the primary cluster is in the Singapore region and the secondary cluster is in Philippines (Manila) region.

  • Charged:

One of your primary or secondary clusters is deployed in the Chinese mainland, and the other is deployed in a region outside the Chinese mainland, such as China (Hong Kong).

    • The primary cluster is in a region in the Chinese mainland and the secondary cluster is in a region outside the Chinese mainland. For example, the primary cluster is in the China (Chengdu) region and the secondary cluster is in the China (Hong Kong) or Singapore region.

    • The primary cluster is in a region outside the Chinese mainland and the secondary cluster is in a region in the Chinese mainland. For example, the primary cluster is in the Singapore region and the secondary cluster is in the China (Hangzhou) or China (Shenzhen) region.

Scope of impact

The GDN feature of PolarDB for MySQL.

  • Existing clusters: For existing GDNs, secondary clusters added to them after the effective date will be billed on a pay-as-you-go basis for data traffic if they meet the preceding charging criteria. Existing cross-region or cross-border links are not affected and will not incur additional fees.

  • New clusters: For new GDNs created on or after the effective date, you are charged for data traffic on a pay-as-you-go basis if the GDNs meet the preceding charging criteria.

For more information about billing, see Billing for GDN.
