This topic describes how to use the specification evaluation feature provided by ApsaraMQ for Kafka to evaluate the specification requirements of the destination instance before you migrate a self-managed Kafka cluster to Message Queue for Apache Kafka.

Prerequisites

An Alibaba Cloud account is created and the real-name verification is completed for the account. If you do not have an Alibaba Cloud account, go to the Register account page to create an Alibaba Cloud account.

Usage notes

ApsaraMQ for Kafka evaluates the specification requirements of the destination ApsaraMQ for Kafka instance based on the specification information about the self-managed Kafka cluster that you want to migrate. If you know the specification information about the self-managed Kafka cluster, you can specify the information, including the cluster traffic, disk capacity, disk type, and number of partitions, in the Evaluate Specifications panel. Before you migrate the self-managed cluster to Message Queue for Apache Kafka, you can create and deploy a ApsaraMQ for Kafka instance based on the recommended specifications. When you create a migration task, you can use an instance that is deployed as the destination instance.

If you do not know the specification information about the self-managed Kafka cluster, you can set the value of the evaluate parameter to true when you configure the migration tool. When the migration tool exports the metadata of the cluster, the migration tool collects the specification information about the self-managed Kafka cluster. Then, ApsaraMQ for Kafka evaluates the specification requirements of the destination instance based on the collected information. For more information, see Migrate the metadata of a self-managed Kafka cluster to a new Message Queue for Apache Kafka instance.
