Standard streaming is billed based on the amount of downstream traffic used for stream playback. This topic describes the billing rules of standard streaming.
Metering method | Scenario |
Suitable for scenarios in which the traffic fluctuates significantly and is generated only at certain times of a day. For example, traffic occurs only from 9:00 to 11:00 and from 13:00 to 15:00. |
You can purchase resource plans to offset traffic fees. Compared with pay-by-traffic, they are more cost-effective.
You can use standard streaming and Real-Time Streaming (RTS) at the same time to play streams under a domain name. Fees for standard streaming and RTS are calculated respectively. We recommend using RTS for better user experience.
The upstream traffic for stream ingest is free of charge.

Billing rules
Item | Description |
Usage statistics | The total amount of downstream traffic generated for playback on a day is counted. Note The traffic is measured in GB. The conversion scale for traffic is 1024. For example, 1 GB equals to 1,024 MB. |
Billing policy | Tiered pricing for traffic is region-specific. The traffic usage is accumulated monthly. In a calendar month, the amount of traffic falling in each tier is billed at the corresponding unit price. Note that usage from different regions cannot be aggregated. |
Billing cycle | You are charged on a daily basis. The bill of a day is generated within the first hour of the following day. The actual time is determined by the system. Fees are automatically deducted from your Alibaba Cloud account. If a deductible resource plan is available, the system preferentially uses it to offset fees. |
Billing example
Scenario: On June 1 and 2, you used ApsaraVideo Live to ingest streams in the Chinese mainland. The downstream traffic for playback is 10 TB on June 1, and 5 TB on June 2.
Pricing: As shown in the traffic pricing table, the usage on June 1 falls in the tier of 0 to 10 TB, and the corresponding price is 0.042 USD per GB in the Chinese mainland. Because traffic is accumulated on a monthly basis, the usage on June 2 falls in the tier of 10 TB to 50 TB, and the corresponding price is 0.040 USD per GB in the Chinese mainland.
Fees:
Standard streaming fee on June 1: 10 × 1,024 GB × USD 0.042 per GB = USD 430.08. The bill is generated within 1 hour after 00:00 on June 2.
Standard streaming fee on June 2: 5 × 1,024 GB × USD 0.040 per GB = USD 204.8. The bill is generated within 1 hour after 00:00 on June 3.
