:Specify the retention period of videos

Before you can use other recording features of a video device, you must set the retention period for the videos of the device to a value that is greater than 0. This topic describes how to specify the retention period of videos.

Background information

  • The retention period of videos specifies the minimum number of days for which the system retains the videos. The retention period of a video starts when the video file is generated. You can set the retention period of a video file to N days. After the retention period expires, IoT Platform deletes the video file.

  • You can specify the retention period of videos only for devices. All videos that are generated on a device are retained based on the specified retention period.

Prerequisites

A video instance is created and a video device is connected IoT Platform. For more information, see Device Connection.

Call API operations

  1. SetDeviceRecordLifeCycle: specifies the period of time for which you want to retain the videos of a device in the cloud.

    Note

    You can set the retention period of videos to up to 3650 days.

  2. QueryDeviceRecordLifeCycle: queries the period of time for which the videos of one or more devices can be stored in the cloud.
