Identity as a Service:[Announcement] China Telecom to prohibit links, IP addresses, and contact information in SMS messages

Last Updated:Oct 16, 2025

Dear Alibaba Cloud IDaaS user,

To comply with the latest requirements from China Telecom and ensure the security of SMS messages, IDaaS will make the following adjustments to SMS message content starting May 20, 2025. Please review these changes.

Changes

Starting May 20, 2025, SMS messages sent through IDaaS will no longer contain:

  1. Web links, such as shortened links and QR codes.

  2. Contact information, such as phone numbers, social media accounts, and physical addresses.

Affected scope

  1. All SMS messages sent from the IDaaS console or using the IDaaS SMS service.

  2. Verification code and notification messages are not affected and will be sent as normal.

Recommended actions

If your SMS templates for corporate identity verification or logon notifications contain URLs or contact information, you must update them as follows:

  1. Check your SMS templates for URLs.

  2. Remove plainSMS contact information, such as phone numbers and social media accounts, from your templates. Instead, guide users to your official corporate application or service portal.

Additionally, China Telecom now throttles SMS message traffic during nighttime hours. If your messages fail to send even though they do not contain the restricted content, the failure may be due to this throttling policy. We recommend retrying. Be sure to check and update your SMS templates.

Thank you for your understanding and support.
