Elastic Compute Service:Activate async replication for replication pair-consistent groups

Last Updated:Nov 02, 2023

After you add replication pairs to a replication pair-consistent group, you must activate the replication pairs by activating async replication for the group to asynchronously replicate data from disks in the primary site to disks in the secondary site on a periodical basis. After replication pairs are activated, the system first performs a full synchronization to synchronize all data from disks in the primary site to disks in the secondary site and then periodically synchronizes incremental data based on the recovery point objective (RPO) of the replication pair-consistent group. This topic describes how to activate async replication for a replication pair-consistent group.

Prerequisite

  • If you want to use manual synchronization by clicking Confirm when you activate async replication for replication pair-consistent groups, make sure that the groups are in the Created, Syncing, Normal, or Stopped state.

  • If you want to use manual synchronization by clicking Copy Data when you activate async replication for replication pair-consistent groups, make sure that the groups are in the Created, One-time Syncing, or Stopped state.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Elastic Block Storage (EBS) console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Enterprise-level Features > Replication Pair-consistent Group.

  3. In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region. 地域

  4. You can use one of the following methods to activate async replication for replication pair-consistent groups:

    • Activate async replication for a single replication pair-consistent group.

In the list of replication pair-consistent groups, find the replication pair-consistent group for which you want to activate async replication and click Activate in the Operation column.

    • Activate async replication for multiple replication pair-consistent groups at the same time.

In the list of replication pair-consistent groups, select the replication pair-consistent groups for which you want to activate async replication and click Batch Activate in the lower part of the Replication Pair-consistent Groups page.

    • Activate async replication for all replication pairs in a single replication pair-consistent group.

Click the ID of a replication pair-consistent group. On the details page of the replication pair-consistent group, click Activate in the upper-right corner to activate async replication for all the replication pairs in the group.

  5. In the message that appears, click Copy Data or Confirm to activate async replication for the replication pairs.

    • Copy Data: The system immediately replicates data once and then stops the replication pair-consistent group after data is replicated. Subsequently, you can manually synchronize data or have data automatically synchronized from disks in the primary site to disks in the secondary site based on your business requirements.

    • Confirm: The system periodically replicates data based on the RPO of the replication pair-consistent group to synchronize data between disks in the primary and secondary sites.

The first time you activate async replication for a replication pair-consistent group, the state of the group changes to Syncing. You must wait until all data is synchronized.

When the state of a replication pair-consistent group changes to Normal, async replication is activated for group and all data on disks in the primary site has been synchronized to disks in the secondary site. Subsequently, the system asynchronously replicates incremental data from disks in the primary site to disk in the secondary site based on the RPO of the replication pair-consistent group. In the Last Data Recovery Point column of the replication pair-consistent group list, you can find the time when data was last replicated from disks in the primary site to disks in the secondary site.
