:Announcement on performance burst price adjustments for ESSD AutoPL disks

Last Updated:Aug 20, 2024

ESSD AutoPL disks support performance bursts. Excessive burst IOPS (excluding baseline and pre-configured performance) may lead to unexpected performance burst costs. To resolve this issue, ESSD AutoPL disks will adopt a new billing model for performance burst costs (the price cap rule of performance burst). This ensures that even in extreme performance burst scenarios, the performance burst costs remain within a controllable range, eliminating the risk of overspending.

Adjustment content

  • Pre-adjustment costs

Performance burst costs = Total burst amount * Performance burst unit price

  • Post-adjustment costs

The price cap rule of performance burst will be adopted. If the maximum burst IO density (maximum burst IOPS/disk capacity) within the billing cycle exceeds 200 IOPS/GiB, the performance burst costs are capped. Details are displayed in the table below.

    Total burst IO (IO/hour)

Maximum burst IO density (maximum burst IOPS/GiB)

    Performance burst costs

    Typical scenario

Less than or equal to 100,000

    Not applicable

Free (with a free quota of 100,000 IO, no performance burst costs)

    Occasional glitch IO

    Greater than 100,000

Less than or equal to 200

    Costs not capped

Costs = (Burst IO - 100,000) * Performance burst unit price

Occasional business peak, without exceeding the IOPS cap threshold

    Greater than 200

    Costs capped

    Costs = min((Burst IO - 100,000) * Performance burst unit price, Disk capacity cost * 8)

Extreme load, high IOPS peak pressure, and long duration

Adjustment impact

  • After the new billing model is enabled, your burst costs are reduced with the reduction rate varying based on the burst situation.

  • If you are using the performance burst feature of ESSD AutoPL disks, after the new billing model is enabled, the performance burst costs are capped once the specified threshold (performance burst IOPS) is reached, thereby reducing burst costs.

  • You have a free quota of 100,000 IO each hour. Burst IO within the quota limit is not charged.
