Data Management:Create a workspace

Last Updated:Apr 20, 2026

The Data Warehouse Development feature of Data Management (DMS) organizes projects using a three-level hierarchy: workspace, business scenario, and task flow. This feature also supports layered data warehouse management, which makes it easier to manage data warehouse requirements for specific scenarios and satisfy complex development and management needs. A workspace is the basic unit for data warehouse development, management, and operations and maintenance (O&M). This topic describes how to create a workspace and perform related operations.

Prerequisites

  • You have purchased an instance of AnalyticDB for MySQL 3.0 or AnalyticDB for PostgreSQL.

    Note
  • You have registered the AnalyticDB instance in DMS. For more information, see ApsaraDB Data Ingestion.

  • You have created a test database and an online database in AnalyticDB. For more information, see Manage databases.

    Note

To ensure the stability of the online database, the Data Warehouse Development workspace uses separate test and online databases. The test environment is isolated from the online environment. You can develop and debug task flows in the test database and then publish them to the online database for scheduling.

  • You have owner permissions on both the test and online databases. To request database owner permissions, see Manage access control permissions.

Procedure

  1. Log in to DMS 5.0.

  2. In the top navigation bar, choose Data+AI > Data Development > Data Warehouse Development.

    Note

If you use the DMS console in simple mode, move the pointer over the 2023-01-28_15-57-17.png icon in the upper-left corner and choose All Features > Data+AI > Data Development > Data Warehouse Development.

  3. Click Create Workspace.

  4. In the Create Workspace dialog box, configure the following parameters:

    Category

    Configuration item

    Description

    Basic Information

    Workspace

Enter a descriptive workspace name that reflects its business purpose for easy identification.

    Note

Create workspaces based on OLAP requirements, data warehouse data, or business scenarios.

    Mode

    • Simple mode: not available. The test environment and online environment are the same. The test database is the online database.

    • Standard mode: default. The test environment is isolated from the online environment. Develop and debug in the test database, then publish to the online database for scheduling.

    Description

Enter a detailed description of the workspace for easy identification.

    Data Warehouse Engine

    Data Warehouse Engine

Select the database type for the test and online databases:

    • AnalyticDB for MySQL 3.0

    • AnalyticDB for PostgreSQL

    Test Database

Search for and select a test database.

    Online Database

Search for and select an online database.

    Advanced Configuration

Security Check Free During Trial Run

Can be enabled or disabled. Enabled by default. When enabled, no security rule checks are required before running task flow trials or changing table schemas in the test database. Execution is allowed directly.

    O&M Without Approval

Can be enabled or disabled. Enabled by default. When enabled, publishing task flows or changing table schemas skips the approval process and publishes directly to the online database.

  5. Click OK.

The workspace that you created appears in the Workspace section.

Related operations

In the Workspace section, you can perform the following operations on workspaces.

Operation

Description

Workspace list scope

In the upper-right corner of the Workspace section, select one of the following scopes:

  • User-related: default. Shows workspaces you are a member of.

  • Current tenant: shows all workspaces in the current tenant.

Go to a workspace

Most of your work happens in a workspace.

A workspace consists of data ingestion solutions and business scenarios. You can create task flows under a business scenario.

Manage

  • View the workspace's basic information and data warehouse engine.

Click Edit in the upper-right corner to modify this information.

  • Workspace Members: for details about member permissions, see Workspace permission model.

On the Workspace Members tab, add or remove members.

  • Themes: classify and identify tables in data warehouse development task flows.

On the Themes tab, add, edit, or delete workspace themes.

  • Layers: classify and identify tables in data warehouse development task flows.

On the Layers tab, add, edit, or delete workspace layers.

O&M

View the task flow operations dashboard and monitor or manage data warehouse development task flows and data ingestion tasks.
