Data Transport:Local files

Last Updated:Nov 13, 2023

If you want to migrate a file from a portable hard disk that has a USB connector, you must create a data address for the file. This topic describes how to obtain the path of a portable hard disk and create a data address for a file.

Prerequisites

The source portable hard disk is connected to the USB port of a Data Transport Mini device.

Supported hard disk formats

The following hard disk formats are supported: EXT3, EXT4, NTFS, FAT32, and HFS+.

Step 1: Obtain the path of the portable hard disk

Before you create a data address, connect the source portable hard disk to the USB port of a Data Transport Mini device, log on to the Data Transport server, and then obtain the path of the portable hard disk. You can log on to the Data Transport server by using one of the following methods:

Log on to the Data Transport server from a Linux or macOS host

  1. Open the command-line interface (CLI).

  2. Run the ssh < username>@<Management IP address> command.

The default management IP address is 192.168.1.1. For more information, see Install hardware.

  3. Enter the password to log on to the Data Transport server.

  4. Run the df -h command to view the path of the portable hard disk.

    Note

The path is used to create a data address in the Data Transport console. We recommend that you store this path for future reference.

Log on to the Data Transport server from a Windows host

  1. Download a remote connection tool on your laptop.

In this example, PuTTY is downloaded. You can select a version of PuTTY based on the version of your laptop. For more information, visit Download PuTTY.

  2. Open PuTTY, set the parameters that are shown in the following figure, and then log on to the Data Transport server.

Set the Host Name (or IP address) parameter to the management IP address. The default management IP address is 192.168.1.1. For more information, see Install hardware.

  3. Run the df -h command to view the path of the portable hard disk.

    Note

The path is used to create a data address in the Data Transport console. We recommend that you store this path for future reference.

Step 2: Create a data address

  1. In the address bar of the browser, enter https://<Management IP address>:8090.

    • The default management IP address is 192.168.1.1. For more information, see Install hardware.

    • 8090 indicates the port number of the HTTPS service that is enabled on the server.

  2. Enter the username and password to log on to the Data Transport console.

To obtain the username and password, contact Alibaba Cloud technical support.

  3. Select Data Address and click Create.

  4. In the Create Data Address dialog box, specify the required information and click OK.

    • Data Name: the name of a data address. We recommend that you use an identifiable name.

    • Data Type: In this example, select Local File System.

    • Local File Path: the path of the portable hard disk. For more information, see Step 1: Obtain the path of the portable hard disk.

Troubleshooting

  • Issue

You may encounter the following error when you log on to the Data Transport server from a Linux or macOS host.

  • Cause

The logon failure is caused by a change of the public key.

  • Solution

Delete the information about the original public key from the ~/.ssh/known_hosts file and log on to the server again.
