Data Transmission Service:Connect an on-premises database to DTS by using CEN

Last Updated:Aug 24, 2023

This topic describes how to connect an on-premises database to Data Transmission Service (DTS) by using Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN). If you want to connect an on-premises database to CEN over Express Connect or Smart Access Gateway, you must configure a route for the on-premises database. The route ensures that the on-premises database can connect to DTS by using CEN.

Background information

To connect an on-premises database to DTS by using CEN, you must configure a route for the on-premises database. You can configure the route after you attach a virtual border router (VBR) or a Cloud Connect Network (CCN) instance to the same CEN instance. When you configure data migration or synchronization, you can specify the on-premises database as the source or destination database. This ensures the efficiency and security of data migration to Alibaba Cloud.

Procedure

  1. Attach the VBR or the CCN instance that is connected to the on-premises database to the same CEN instance. For more information, see Attach a network instance.

  2. Optional:In the CEN console, configure the AnyTunnel service to allow the VBR or the CCN instance to access DTS. For more information, see Configure the AnyTunnel service.

    Note

You can skip this step. When you configure a data migration or synchronization task, DTS automatically configures the AnyTunnel service.

  3. Configure a route between the on-premises database and DTS by using one of the following methods:

    • Advertise the BGP CIDR block to allow the VBR to learn the route information.

      1. Log on to the Express Connect console.
      2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Physical Connections > Virtual Border Routers (VBRs).
      3. Select the region where the virtual border router (VBR) resides and click the VBR ID.
      4. Click the Route Entries tab, and then click Add Route Entry.Add a route entry
      5. Modify the route entry and then click OK.

        Parameter

        Description

        Destination CIDR Block

Enter the CIDR blocks of DTS servers.

        Note

For more information about the CIDR blocks of DTS servers in each region, see Add the CIDR blocks of DTS servers to the security settings of on-premises databases.

        Next Hop Type

        Select VPC.

The VBR forwards data to the selected VPC.

        Next Hop

Select the next hop instance that receives the data.

        Note

If a route to another Alibaba Cloud service is configured, you must select the same next hop instance. This avoids access exceptions that are caused by overlapping CIDR blocks.

      6. On the Advertised BGP Subnets tab, click Advertise BGP Subnet and enter the CIDR blocks of DTS servers. For more information, see Advertise the BGP CIDR block.
    • Add a static route to allow the on-premises database to access DTS.

      Note

For more information about the CIDR blocks of DTS servers in each region, see Add the CIDR blocks of DTS servers to the security settings of on-premises databases.

What to do next

To use the on-premises database as the source or destination database, you must select Self built database accessed through Cloud Enterprise Network(CEN) as the instance type. Then, you must select the ID of the CEN instance and VPC. For more information, see Overview of data migration scenarios or Overview of data synchronization scenarios. Select the ID of the CEN instance and VPC
