Create a TCO analysis task

1. Log on to the CMH console. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Assessment > TCO Analyse. On the TCO Analyse page, click Create TCO Analysis Task. In the Create TCO Analysis Task panel, select AWS from the Source CSP/Self-built platform drop-down list. Then, configure the parameters as required. For information about how to estimate cloud migration costs for data centers, see Estimate cloud migration costs for data centers.

2. Select a resource survey method.

If you select AK/SK as Research methods, specify an AWS account with the read permissions on AWS resources. CMH can use the account to automatically analyze the bills of your purchased AWS services and map the AWS services to Alibaba Cloud services. Then, CMH can calculate the costs of Alibaba Cloud services that are of the same specifications as your purchased AWS services and compare the service costs.

After you select AK/SK, configure other parameters as required and click Yes.

If you select Form Upload as Research methods, upload the resource information of the source by using a template.

After you select Form Upload, click Evaluation template.xlsx to download the TCO analysis template in an Excel file. After you fill in the template, click Select file to upload the template.

3. Start a TCO analysis task.

After you configure the parameters, click Yes to start a TCO analysis task.

After the task is created, you can view the task on the TCO Analyse page. After the analysis is complete, you can perform further analysis.

Download the bill analysis results

The TCO analysis feature analyzes your service bills within the specified time period based on billable items to obtain the specifications, average monthly usage, and average monthly resource consumption for each service. After the analysis is complete, you can download the analysis results in an Excel file to your on-premises machine for further analysis.

View the service mapping list

Based on the service specifications and usage, the TCO analysis feature maps the purchased AWS services to Alibaba Cloud services. The TCO analysis feature provides the most cost-effective configurations that can cover your current service usage without compromising the service specifications. You can click View Configurations to view the service mapping list. In the list, you can add, modify, or remove mapping relationships and adjust the resource mapping logic that is predefined in the TCO analysis feature. This allows you to determine Alibaba Cloud service specifications that can meet your business requirements.

Compare services

In terms of cost estimation, the TCO analysis feature calculates the monthly costs of Alibaba Cloud services that are of the same specifications as your purchased AWS services. The TCO analysis feature also provides a comparison between your AWS bills during a specific month and the estimated average monthly costs of using Alibaba Cloud services. In addition, you can contact your Alibaba Cloud sales manager who can help adjust the price calculation ratio of services in each service category. This further optimizes your costs of using Alibaba Cloud services.

Services between which mapping relationships can be established
