Chat App Message Service:Announcement on updates of WhatsApp message templates

The new pricing solution that is provided by Meta will take effect on June 1, 2023. The prices vary based on conversation categories. The conversations initiated by enterprises are divided into three categories which correspond to three categories of message templates in ChatAPP: utility, marketing, and authentication. The conversations initiated by users are called service conversations.

The first batch of template categories was automatically migrated by WhatsApp on April 1, 2023. Take note of the following items:

  1. Check whether your existing templates are incorrectly categorized after migration. If the templates are incorrectly categorized, contact your account manager to submit a ticket. After May 15, 2023, you can no longer submit a ticket to handle template categorization issues. Submitting tickets does not impact the status of template review.

  2. From now on, you can create templates of new categories in the ChatAPP console and correct categorization is one of the review standards for Facebook. To increase the chance of passing the review, we recommend that you allow the categories of templates to be modified when you create a template in the console. Otherwise, the template may be rejected due to incorrect categorization.

Note

After you allow the categories of templates to be modified, WhatsApp will automatically modify the category of the template that you submit for review if WhatsApp identifies that the template content is inconsistent with the selected template category.

  1. From May 29, 2023, all templates of the authentication category must contain a one-time password button. We will update the templates after the feature is enabled. We recommend that you follow our announcements and API operation updates of ChatAPP.

  2. On June 1, 2023, the WhatsApp conversation-based pricing will be changed. WhatsApp will charge for conversations based on the new categories of message templates. The pricing of ChatAPP remains unchanged. For more information, see Updates to conversation-based pricing: Effective June 1, 2023.
