ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ:Topic quota and billing changes for ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ 5.x instances

Last Updated:Mar 11, 2026

Starting November 9, 2024 (UTC+8), ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ 5.x instances replace the hard topic limit with a free topic quota. Topics within the free quota incur no charge. Topics that exceed the free quota are billed hourly. Your service continues without interruption when you exceed the free quota.

This change applies to both subscription and pay-as-you-go instances.

What changed

Previously, each instance edition enforced a hard cap on the number of topics you could create. Under the new model:

  • Each instance edition includes a free topic quota at no additional cost.

  • After you reach the free quota, you can still create a specific number of topics. Each excess topic incurs an hourly charge.

For the free topic quota of each instance edition and detailed pricing, see Topic fees.

Who is affected

If you previously increased the topic limit on an instance through a ticket or O&M operations, this change affects you. Hourly billing for excess topics takes effect on November 9, 2024 (UTC+8). For billing rules, see Topic fees.

What to do

  1. Check the number of topics on each of your ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ 5.x instances.

  2. Compare your topic count against the free quota for your instance edition. See Topic fees for quota and pricing details.

  3. If your topic count exceeds the free quota, review the hourly pricing to estimate the additional cost.
