Certificate Management Service:Change a domain name

Last Updated:Jan 18, 2024

If the refund period of your certificate order elapsed seven calendar days ago and you need to bind different domain names to your certificate, you can change the existing domain names that are bound to the certificate to the new domain names. This topic describes how to change a domain name that is bound to a certificate.

Procedure

The operation that changes a domain name for a certificate is equivalent to the operation that purchases a new certificate. Therefore, you must pay for the change operation. For more information about the billing of certificates, see Billing overview.

Before you can change a domain name for a certificate, make sure that the following conditions are met:

  • The certificate is purchased from Alibaba Cloud Certificate Management Service. The certificate is issued by GlobalSign within 28 calendar days.

To view the issuance time of a certificate, perform the following operations: In the certificate list, find the certificate and click Details in the Actions column. In the Certificate Details panel, view the issuance time of the certificate.

  • The certificate is not in the Hosted state. If you want to change a domain name that is bound to a hosted certificate, you must cancel hosting for the certificate before the change. For more information, see Cancel hosting for a certificate.

Warning
  • If a domain name fails to be changed because your application for changing the domain name is rejected, Alibaba Cloud automatically cancels the change order of the domain name, and you can receive a refund in the payment account that you used to pay for the order.

  • If a domain name is successfully changed, the validity period of the new certificate is the same as the validity period of the original certificate. For example, before a domain name is changed, the original certificate expires on December 31, 2022. After the domain name is changed, the new certificate still expires on December 31, 2022.

  • After a domain name is changed, you cannot request a refund for the original certificate or the new certificate.

  1. Log on to the Certificate Management Service console.
  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click SSL Certificates.
  3. On the Manage Certificates tab, find the certificate for which you want to change a domain name and use one of the following methods to change the domain name:

    • In the Bound Domains column, click the 追加域名入口图标 icon. In the Domain Name Update dialog box, click Change Domain Name.

    • In the Actions column, click the 分享按钮 icon and click Change Domain Name.

  4. In the Change Domain Name panel, select the domain name that you want to change, enter a new domain name, select Note, and then click OK.

    Important

The specifications of the new domain name must be the same as the specifications of the original domain name. For example, if the original domain name is the wildcard domain name *.aliyun.com, you can enter a wildcard domain name such as *.taobao.com.

  5. In the Tip dialog box, click Submit.

You are charged for changing the domain name. The actual prices on the buy page shall prevail.

After you submit an application for changing the domain name, Alibaba Cloud reviews your application. After Alibaba Cloud approves the application, Alibaba Cloud applies for a new certificate to replace the original certificate.

After the domain name is changed, the original certificate is revoked, and you must install the new certificate. For more information, see Installation overview.
