Last Updated:Dec 12, 2022

This topic describes how to fix the error that is reported when you attempt to open a website in Internet Explorer on a Windows Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance.

Problem description

When I attempt to open a website in Internet Explorer on a Windows instance, the following error message is reported:

Content from the website listed below is being blocked by the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration.

Cause

To ensure Windows instance security, Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration is enabled by default when Internet Explorer is running. If you do not want the preceding error message to appear when you open Internet Explorer, you can disable Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration.

Solution

To resolve the preceding issue, you can perform the following steps to disable Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration.

Note

In this example, Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2016 is used. Operations may vary based on the version of your operating system.

  1. Connect to the Windows instance.

For more information, see Connect to a Windows instance by using a password or key.

  2. Choose Start > Server Manager > Local Server. Then, click On to the right of IE Enhanced Security Configuration.

  3. In the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration dialog box, select Off for Administrators, select Off for Users, and then click OK to save the configurations.

  4. Open the website in Internet Explorer again to ensure that no error messages appear.
