This topic describes how to attach network instances to a Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN) instance. To use CEN to connect network instances, you must first attach the network instances to a CEN instance. The following network instances can be attached to CEN: virtual private clouds (VPCs), virtual border routers (VBRs), and cloud connect networks (CCNs). The CEN instance automatically learns and distributes the routes of the attached network instances to enable network interconnection.

Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure that the following requirements are met:
  • A CEN instance is created. For more information, see Step 2: Create a CEN instance.
  • The network instances must not be attached to other CEN instances.
  • To connect network instances under other accounts, you must first contact the owners. You must acquire the permissions to attach their network instances to your CEN instance. In addition, you must obtain the UIDs of the network instance owners. For more information, see Acquire permissions to attach network instances under other accounts.

Background information

You can use CEN to connect network instances created under the same account or other accounts. For example, you create a CEN instance CEN-abc123 under an account with the UID 87654321. You can attach the following network instances to the CEN instance: VPC-b123 under the same account and the VPC-a321 under another account. This way, VPC-b123 and VPC-a321 can communicate with each other.Attach network instances

Attach a network instance under the same account

The network instance VPC-b123 and the CEN instance CEN-abc123 belong to the same account. To attach VPC-b123 to CEN-abc123, perform the following steps:

  1. Log on to the CEN console.
  2. On the Instances page, click the ID of the CEN instance.
  3. Locate the section that displays the type of the network instance and click the Attach the network instance icon.
  4. On the Connection with Peer Network Instance page, set the following parameters:
    • Network Type: The system automatically selects the network instance type that you have specified.

Network instances that can be attached to CEN are VPCs, VBRs, and CCNs.

    • Region: Select the region to which the network instance belongs.
    • Transit Router: The transit router created in the selected region is displayed.

If no transit router is found in the selected region, the system automatically creates a transit router.

    • Resource Owner ID: Select the account to which the network instance belongs. Select Your Account.
    • Networks: Select the ID of the network instance. VPC-b123 is selected in this example.
  5. Click OK.

Attach a network instance under another account

The network instance VPC-a321 and the CEN instance CEN-abc123 belong to different accounts. To attach VPC-a321 to CEN-abc123, perform the following steps:

  1. Log on to the CEN console.
  2. On the Instances page, click the ID of the CEN instance.
  3. Locate the section that displays the type of the network instance and click the Attach the network instance icon.
  4. On the Connection with peer Network Instance page, set the following parameters:
    • Network Type: The system automatically selects the network type that you have specified.

Select Different Account and enter the UID of the network instance owner. UID12345678 is entered in this example.
    • Networks: Select the ID of the network instance. VPC-a123 is selected in this example.
  5. Click OK.
