ApsaraDB for OceanBase is a distributed relational database developed by Ant Financial and Alibaba Group. It was launched in 2010. ApsaraDB for OceanBase has the following features: strong data consistency, high availability, high performance, scalability, compatibility with SQL standards and mainstream relational databases, and low costs. ApsaraDB for OceanBase is applied to all core businesses of Alipay, such as trading, payment, membership, and accounting. It is also applied to businesses of Alibaba Group, such as Taobao and Tmall favorites and pay for performance (P4P) advertising statements. Since 2017, ApsaraDB for OceanBase has served customers such as Bank of Nanjing, China Zheshang Bank (CZBank), and PICC Health Insurance.
- High performance: ApsaraDB for OceanBase adopts a read/write separation architecture. Data is divided into baseline data and incremental data. Incremental data is stored in memory (MemTable), and baseline data is stored on SSD (SSTable). Incremental modifications are written to memory.DML operations are performed on data in memory.
- Low costs: ApsaraDB for OceanBase achieves a high compression ratio by using data encoding and compression technologies. The data encoding technology provides encoding methods based on the range and data type of fields in the relational table. This technology supports higher compression efficiency than standard compression algorithms.
- Compatibility: ApsaraDB for OceanBase is compatible with the main features, frontend protocols, and backend protocols of MySQL and Oracle databases. You can migrate data from MySQL and Oracle databases to ApsaraDB for OceanBase with zero or small modifications.
- High availability: Data is stored in multiple replicas. Data availability is not affected even if a few replicas fail. The Five Data Centers in Three Regions solution provides automated and non-disruptive disaster recovery across cities.
