Pictured above is He Yunfei, General Manager of Product Management, General Manager of AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) P&S, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, who represented Alibaba Cloud Intelligence's Internet of Things (IoT) Business Unit at Apsara Conference 2019.

During his speech, Yunfei recalled what the General Manager of the IoT Buisness Unit, Ku Wei, considered as their Units main objective: "At Alibaba Group, we have always prided ourselves in providing intelligent solutions for streamlining the business operations of our customers. Following this, at the IoT Business Unit of Alibaba Cloud, we are also focused on engaging more customers in IoT-empowered business solutions. This, however, does have its challenges, as IoT is a very fragmented market currently."

At the conference, He Yunfei discussed a host of new releases and some of the latest achievements of Alibaba Cloud's IoT platform-things that Alibaba hopes will engage more in the IoT market.

AIoT platform

Alibaba imagines a future in which every enterprise will utilize Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) technology to build systems and manage resources. At the Apsara Conference, Yunfei cited that: "In the next 20 years, smart and internet-connected devices will be an increasingly important mechanism for collecting information towards providing a better, more complete sense and perception of the physical world around us. At Alibaba Cloud, we predict that, in the future, 80% of the information required by enterprises can be collected by smart devices, and something like 80% of enterprises will require an AIoT platform to help manage these devices and the data collected," said He at Apsara Conference 2019.

Starting with creating the infrastructure for AIoT platform, Alibaba Group looks forward to an increasingly digital world. And, through the construction of an AIoT operating system and edge computing capabilities, Alibaba Cloud hopes to empower AI-enabled devices and applications on a mass stage. At the same time, Alibaba Cloud also offers a cloud-based end-to-end AIoT platform to help enterprises create and develop AI-powered applications with efficiency and ease. Next, to leverage the advantages of AI-enabled devices, Alibaba Cloud is also committed to establishing a large ecosystem where ecosystem partners in chip design and manufacturing, module production, and smart device design and manufacturing coexist alongside each other in one large team.

AliOS Things 3.0

Alibaba Group developed the all new AliOS Things 3.0 operating system, which features a whole new development framework and online customization of components and complete application and kernel isolation. This new operating system also supports JavaScript and a new framework for AI applications in an on-premises environment.

Yunfei also made special note that AliOS Things 3.0 is based on a microkernel architecture, which happens to allow for the deployment and online upgrade of containerized applications that run on IoT-enabled devices. Next, through decoupling software from hardware and improving O&M efficiency, the microkernel architecture can help hardware vendors to reduce production and O&M costs by significant margins.

AIoT activation services for smart devices

Alibaba Cloud launched the AIoT activation center to service devices from all around the world. Smart device vendors only need to configure the IP address of the activation center to activate all devices because, after a device is activated through connecting to the AIoT activation center, the device can automatically and intelligently connect to the data center that is closest to the user's location. This, of course, can in turn also help smart device vendors to deliver a better, more localized user experience to more users from the globe. From the get-go, the AIoT activation center supports 8 languages, complies with EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and provides more than 3,400 app interfaces. All these features collectively work together to satisfy any number of business requirements as well as to better serve an increasingly globe user base.
