Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, announced an initiative to broaden global access to its cutting-edge foundation models and trustworthy AI services at Mobile World Congress 2026. Among rising demand for digital sovereignty solutions – which highlights owning and controlling one’s IT estates for strategic independence – this move aims to support enterprises worldwide in building and deploying localized AI models and agents tailored to their specific languages, cultures, and regulatory environments.
According to IDC, organizations worldwide are prioritizing compliance, data localization, and AI governance to secure control over critical digital assets; Based on insights from Gartner, technology sovereignty, a key component in digital sovereignty solutions that highlights technology autonomy, is placing more and more importance to on-premises deployments, driven by the need to support critical workloads.
Against this backdrop, Alibaba Cloud has expanded its offering of Model Studio: Exclusive, Alibaba’s all-in-one generative AI development platform for customers, especially those in regulated sectors such as finance, healthcare, and public services. Initially unveiled last year, it offers customers the latest open-source and commercial versions of Alibaba’s advanced foundation models, including Qwen and Wan, to build their own AI models and applications.
Built for secure model training and deployment in hybrid and private cloud environments to address customers’ stringent data residency and privacy requirement, the platform enables localized data processing and secure model training such as fine-tuning, with customer-specific datasets adapted to regional languages and cultures. It also offers services including model evaluation against local compliances, and model deployment within designated private environments – all providing the necessary framework for organizations to maintain full control over their proprietary data and their own AI models.
Alibaba Cloud provides flexible deployment options for Model Studio: Exclusive, including an exclusive mode within Apsara Stack — an enterprise-grade private cloud environment designed for isolated cloud management — as well as on a compact AI workstation tailored for fast and cost-effective private deployment.
Alibaba Cloud’s full-stack, integrated AI services – featuring its advanced foundation models, model training and inferencing services through Model Studio, and resilient cloud infrastructure – empower customers to create localized AI models and customized agents that align with their languages, cultures, business strategies and regulation compliance in a secure environment. Together with local partners, Alibaba Cloud is committed to providing the resilient infrastructure and powerful tools that enable customers to build and own their technology sovereign capabilities balancing business agility, security assurance and cost efficiency.
