Demo Day Series Overview
In June 2021, we announced our new Project AsiaForward initiative to bring digital transformation to local enterprises in Asia and nurture fresh talent. As part of Project AsiaForward, we are launching the Alibaba Cloud Global Startup Accelerator. Here a series of Demo Days will be held, offering startups the chance to be selected for the Global Startup Accelerator and become part of Alibaba Cloud’s global ecosystem.
We will invite startups from all stages and industries.

Rules and FAQs

Each Demo Day event has two stages.
Stage 1: Qualification - Register your startup information and submit your business plan to participate. Participants from Alibaba Cloud, VC Partners, and KrAsia will decide and judge the finalists.
Stage 2: Demo Day Final - Go through a close-door live online session, impress the judges with your presentation, and win fabulous prizes!

What Are the Criteria for Qualification?

- Business Development (40%): Address industry pain points and develop new technology during product development
- Business Model (40%): Commercialization of products or services, existing revenue channels, and existing collaborative partners
- Potential for Internationalization (20%): Status of overseas expansion and future plans

How Do I Know if I’m Qualified for Demo Day Final?

All results will be revealed via the DingTalk group.

- Ending Session: Wrap Up + Conclusion

How Long Should My Presentation Be?

Your Demo Day Final presentation should be around eight minutes.

At Altara, he focuses on backing the next generation of promising entrepreneurs building for the region and beyond. Previously, Dave was Head of Southeast Asia for Eight Roads Ventures where he led investment and portfolio activities for the region. Before that, he was Venture Partner at B Capital Group, where he helped launched its Asia office. Over the past decade, Dave has the opportunity to partner up with many talented founders, including at FreeAgent CRM, LeadIQ, Ninja Van, Carro, StashAway, Akulaku and Icertis.

Ed Chan

Mr. Ed Chan focuses on investment and post-investment management in new consumption market. Prior to joining Gaorong Capital, Ed was previously the Operating Partner for SoftBank’s Vision Fund, the Vice Chairman of Charoen Pokphand Group Company Limited. In addition, he was the President and the CEO of Walmart China from 2006 to 2011, and was once the Director of North Asia Region at the Dairy Farm Group. He was also the Managing Director of BMG in Greater China. Ed began his career as a consultant working in both Hong Kong and the United States. Ed is also an independent director of Yum China, Hong Kong Link Real Estate Investment Trust, and Australia Treasury Wine Estates. Ed Chan received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago and a master degree from the Sloan School of Management, MIT.

She also held various roles at Singapore Airlines, from corporate strategy, fuel procurement and hedging to product innovation and management.

Nazier Ariffin

VP of Strategic Investments

Nazier Ariffin supercharges founders who are creating vital change through Indonesia’s largest telco —Telkomsel‘s strategic fund and has almost 7 years of experience in tech, with more than 30 investments under his belt and is an active writer/speaker on all things technology and entrepreneurship. Pui Yan Leung

Leung Pui Yan joined Vertex in 2020 as the Executive Director (Investment) of Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia and India. She focuses on opportunities in Southeast Asia. Prior to joining Vertex, Pui Yan was a Director of Investments and Operations at Singtel Innov8, the corporate venture arm of telco group Singtel. In her role, she built a pipeline of tech startups that fit with the firm’s investment themes, established strategic alliance and managed partnerships with key ecosystem stakeholders.

Tony Qu

Tony Qu graduated from Peking University with a bachelor’s degree in physics in 2000. He holds an MBA degree from Tsinghua University and an EMBA from CEIBS. Mr. Qu has extensive investment experience. Joining the strategic investment department of Alibaba Group as an early-stage member, Mr. Qu started his investment career from 2007 and has participated in investments in Meituan, UCWEB, Baozun, Sougou, Lily & Beauty etc.In 2018, Mr. Qu founded ATM Capital. The flagship investment projects led by him include leading emerging cosmetic brands in Indonesia and the largest E-commerce enablers in Southeast Asia.

Weisheng Neo

Weisheng is a Principal at Qualgro, with a focus on data, SaaS, EdTech, and AgriTech. He is involved across the investment process, and works with portfolio companies in Southeast Asia, especially in Singapore and Indonesia. Prior to Qualgro, he led an EdTech startup in Southeast Asia, and also worked at Alibaba Group in China. He previously worked in strategy at Parthenon Group. Weisheng holds a BA from Singapore Management University, and a Wharton MBA.
