Alibaba Cloud Showcases “All in Cloud” Expertise and Continued Commitment to Hong Kong

Deploying its powerful technology to support enterprises seeking regional growth in the Greater Bay Area

Hong Kong, May 22, 2019 – Alibaba Cloud, the data intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, is committed to empowering enterprises in Hong Kong in their digital transformation, in the same way as it provides the technological infrastructure that has enabled Alibaba Group to grow into a world-leading company. Leo Liu, General Manager of Alibaba Cloud Hong Kong, Macau and Korea, reinforced this promise at Cloud Expo Asia 2019, which opened in Hong Kong today.

Enterprises adopting Alibaba Cloud's products and solutions are speeding up their migration to the cloud, which will exponentially expand their scope for growth. Alibaba Cloud built Hong Kong's first cloud-based data center back in 2014, and has doubled its service capability since then. Today, Alibaba Cloud is servicing more than 10,000 Hong Kong enterprises and start-ups across industries such as financial services, transportation, retail, hospitality and the Internet.

"We have made it our mission to help businesses in Hong Kong capitalize on digital transformation and capture growth opportunities in the region. Through our journey with over 10,000 local customers, we realized that migration to cloud and eventually running the entire business on cloud is a critical decision that many visionary business leaders are making, as they see that it will bring enormous economic benefits and positive effects to their business operations," said Mr. Liu in his Expo keynote speech on the theme "All in Cloud - The Future of Digital Transformation".

To foster an enabling environment and ecosystem for technology development and adoption, Alibaba Cloud established the Hong Kong and Macau Eco Alliance last year to provide enterprises across industries with access to Alibaba Cloud's extensive suite of solutions and international partners. The company joined the Smart City Consortium this year to contribute its technological insights to improve Hong Kong's urban infrastructure and operations.

Helping enterprises win in the GBA

The development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) has already been providing enterprises with additional business opportunities. Alibaba Cloud's full suite of products and tailored solutions for verticals has been serving its customers with ambitions to strengthen their foothold in Hong Kong and grow beyond borders.

With its Express Connect gateway and extensive Content Distribution Network (CDN), Alibaba Cloud has helped luxury retailer Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Co., Ltd to develop a platform to enhance internal collaboration and work efficiency across geographies. Hong Kong's most popular all-in-one dining platform OpenRice has also migrated its self-built server to Alibaba Cloud.

"Alibaba Cloud worked with us very closely from platform design to maintenance of our enterprise communication and collaboration tool, ensuring that it addresses our needs and maintains high performance after delivery. The platform is widely used within our company by people across the globe. Our colleagues find it easy to use and helpful in streamlining collaboration," said Patrick Tsang, General Manager of the Information Communication Center of Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Co., Ltd.

"Migrating our data center to the cloud was a critical move for our growth. It'd be quite impossible for an individual company like us to own and maintain servers that are powerful enough to cope with the large anticipated traffic, or it would result in idling or wasted capacity during low-traffic periods. Moving to Alibaba Cloud has helped us solve this problem. In addition, we enjoy professional technical support from the team. As the largest cloud provider in the region, we can be rest assured that Alibaba Cloud's service will be available to us seamlessly when we continue to expand beyond Hong Kong," said Joe Yau, CEO of OpenRice.

Building on its strong presence and customer relationship in Hong Kong, Alibaba Cloud will continue to expand its product and service offerings, at the same time as broadening its vertical solutions to cover a wider range of industries, in order to provide better support for its customers on their digital transformation journeys.
