Alibaba Cloud Launches Data Lake Analytics Globally

New product to complement the existing selection that strengthens company’s technology leadership position

Hangzhou, China, November 14th, 2018 – Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Alibaba Group, today launched Data Lake Analytics (DLA) globally. DLA is a serverless, high performance and interactive query service hosted on the Alibaba Cloud platform and is powered by Massive Parallel Processing (MPP) architecture. It turns customers’ cloud storage data into insights in Data Lake scenario. In addition, it requires zero infrastructure setup or upfront cost.

The addition of DLA to Alibaba Cloud’s international product portfolio is aimed to provide customers seeking cloud-native data analytics capabilities with better solutions. Other solutions that are already offered in the area include cloud infrastructure, machine learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT) and security.

Customers can use DLA to run SQL queries against data stored in a number of Alibaba Cloud services, such as objects in OSS, key-value pairs in Table Store, and relational data in Relational Database Service (RDS). They can also explore a single dataset at a time or analyse data across multiple sources simultaneously. DLA is fully compatible with SQL syntax, which enables customers to adapt to the functions with ease. In addition, DLA works with popular Business Intelligence (BI) tools natively so that customers can effectively visualize their data, derive insights, and accelerate decision-making process.

Designed for developers, business analysts, and data scientists where a self-service operational model is highly preferred, DLA provides built-in ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) functionality that reduces the heavy lifting of pre-processing data of different formats and origins so customers can focus on analysis and insights.
