Alibaba Cloud is planning to provide license-included Microsoft Office and Remote Desktop Services (RDS) subscription. Please check below details.
1. Alibaba Cloud is planning to provide the Microsoft Office LTSC Professional Plus 2021 image that includes a Subscriber Access License (SAL) for Microsoft Office software in the future. The licensed Microsoft Office software is delivered through individual user sessions using Remote Desktop Services (RDS). Therefore, if you purchase ECS instances or Elastic Desktop Service and use the Microsoft Office LTSC Professional Plus 2021 image, you are charged for the image and Remote Desktop Service Subscriber Access License (RDS SAL) on a per user per month basis. Please keep track of this topic for updates on the launch time of the Microsoft Office LTSC Professional Plus 2021 image.
2. If you require more than two remote connections on Windows server ECS instances, or need to use those connections for purposes other than management, you may have to bring in additional RDS CALs (Client Access License) or SALs. For more information about License Mobility of RDS CALs, check the document https://www.alibabacloud.com/help/en/elastic-compute-service/latest/microsoft-licenses-and-software-assurance#section-m3j-lvi-hlc.
Due to the license changes of Microsoft in October 2022 (https://blogs.partner.microsoft.com/partner/new-licensing-benefits-make-bringing-workloads-and-licenses-to-partners-clouds-easier/), service providers can only use their SPLA on Alibaba Cloud before September 30, 2025. Alibaba Cloud is planning to provide RDS SAL products in the future. After the product releases, customers can purchase Alibaba Cloud license included offerings.
