Performance difference between lightweight application server and cloud server ECS
Introduction
In terms of cloud server application groups, usage scenarios, billing methods, usage restrictions, mirroring, and network bandwidth, compare the differences between Alibaba Cloud lightweight application servers and cloud server ECS in detail.
Lightweight server and cloud server ECS
Lightweight application server is a cloud product released on the basis of cloud server ECS. Lightweight application server can be understood as a simplified version of cloud server ECS. Lightweight application server is a cloud server that is easy to operate and maintain. Cloud server ECS is suitable for professional-level application scenarios. Cloud server ECS can build a high-availability cluster architecture with cloud databases, load balancing and other instances. The lightweight application server is more suitable for individuals or developers to build applications such as lightweight Web sites.
Difference 1: Applicable people and ease of use
The lightweight application server is used by individual developers or students, and the cloud server ECS is suitable for individual or enterprise users with certain development skills.
Difference 2: Use Scenarios
Lightweight application servers are suitable for lightweight and low-visit application scenarios, such as website construction, knowledge efficiency management, cloud learning environment, e-commerce construction, development environment configuration, etc.; cloud server ECS is a professional server, some cluster applications ECS is the preferred cloud server, such as web applications, online games, big data analysis, and deep learning.
Cloud server ECS is backward compatible, and ECS is suitable for all application scenarios, but lightweight application servers are not.
Difference 3: Billing method
Cloud server ECS billing mode
For example, the pay-as-you-go mode of cloud server ECS can be combined with the elastic scaling AS on-demand elastic scaling, adding ECS instances during business peaks, and automatically releasing ECS instances when business demand drops. The lightweight application server only supports the subscription billing mode.
Difference 4: Use Restrictions
4.1 Restrictions on lightweight application servers, detailed as follows:
• Installation of virtualization software and secondary virtualization are not supported.
• There are certain restrictions on intranet connectivity.
• Only one data disk is supported, and the data disk can only be mounted when creating a lightweight application server.
• Does not support configuring IPv6 addresses.
• Advanced functions supported by ECS such as deployment sets, resource orchestration, auto scaling, tags, and resource groups are not supported.
• Sound card applications are not supported.
4.2 The usage limit of cloud server ECS is as follows:
• Only Elastic Bare Metal Servers and supercomputing clusters support secondary virtualization for cloud server ECS. Other specification families do not support the installation of virtualization software and secondary virtualization.
• ECS does not support sound card applications.
Difference 5: Application Mirroring
Lightweight application server images only support application images, system images, or custom images generated by lightweight application servers, and images can cover mainstream application scenarios.
Cloud server ECS images are rich in types, including public images, custom images, shared images, and image market images, meeting the needs of various types of users for rapid deployment and flexible management of application environments.
Difference 6: Broadband
The lightweight application server automatically creates VPC network resources. After the instance is created, it is configured with a public IP address by default. Changing the public IP address is not supported. Lightweight supports simple configuration of firewalls to control network access. The bandwidth of the public network is specified in the package, and the bandwidth cannot be customized and adjusted.
The Alibaba Cloud server ECS public network bandwidth is exclusive. If you buy cloud server ECS and select the bandwidth, an independent public network IP address will be allocated, and the lightweight application server public network IP is also exclusive. Taking the billing mode based on fixed bandwidth as an example, the cloud server ECS billed by fixed bandwidth does not limit the monthly traffic, while the lightweight application server is sold as a package, and the package has a monthly traffic limit.
The cloud server ECS supports self-planning and maintenance of the network, which can meet complex business requirements in different scenarios. Plan the private network by yourself through functions such as proprietary network and switch; control traffic by yourself through functions such as security group and network ACL; connect to the public network through functions such as EIP and NAT gateway.
Last
The server can be selected according to the actual application situation. For example, individual users or developers come to a simple website, test environment, etc., and can choose a lightweight application server, which is simple, convenient and cost-effective; if it is an enterprise-level application, high-concurrency websites, big data, ECS is the preferred cloud server for business scenarios such as video codec, large-scale games, and complex distributed cluster applications.
