Workbench remote connection problem for Linux system instance
Workbench remote connection problem (for Linux system instance)
• What should I do if a message indicating that the connection timed out is displayed when I use the Workbench tool to remotely connect to a Linux instance?
• What should I do if the remote connection to the Linux instance fails through the Workbench and the message prompts that the connection is refused?
• What should I do if the Workbench tool prompts that the user name or password is incorrect when connecting to a Linux instance remotely?
Problem phenomenon
When using the Workbench tool to remotely connect to a Linux instance, the error message "Login to host: i-m5e****73a (47.*.*.157:3389) failed, reason: link timed out!" is displayed. remote connection failed
Problem causes
This problem is usually caused by:
• In the security rules of the Linux instance, it is forbidden to connect to the target Linux instance through the Workbench tool.
• The default port used by the SSH process is not port 22.
• Firewall settings within the Linux instance do not allow the Workbench tool to connect to the target Linux instance.
Solution
Please refer to the following steps to troubleshoot:
• View the access port configured for the SSH process of the target Linux instance.
1) Not port 22
Retry the remote connection through the modified SSH port in the Workbench tool.
2) Is port 22
Please proceed to the next step to check.
• Check the security group settings of the target Linux instance and check whether the port of the SSH service is released. For details, see Querying Security Group Rules.
1) Not let go
Add a security group rule that allows Workbench access.
2) Released
Please proceed to the next step to check.
• Check whether the firewall is enabled in the Linux instance and does not allow the Workbench tool to connect to the SSH port. The inspection steps are as follows:
1) Log in to the Linux instance through Alibaba Cloud VNC.
2) Check the firewall status.
It is enabled, please close the firewall, and then try to connect remotely through the Workbench tool.
Not enabled, please continue to the next step of troubleshooting.
3) If you still cannot connect remotely through the Workbench tool, it is recommended that you choose the Alibaba Cloud VNC tool for remote connection.
Problem phenomenon
The remote connection to the Linux instance through Workbench fails, and the message "Failed to log in to the instance: DefaultConnectFuture[root@/xxx.xxx.xx.xxx:22]: Failed (AnnotatedConnectException) to exocyte: Connection refused: /xxx.xxx.xx.xxx:22 "mistake.
connection refused
Problem causes
The remote service corresponding to the terminal connection (SSH) or remote desktop (RDP) is not enabled on the Linux instance.
Solution
Please troubleshoot the following issues:
• Whether the remote service corresponding to terminal connection (SSH) or remote desktop (RDP) is enabled on the Linux instance. If it is not enabled, the corresponding remote service needs to be enabled.
• Whether the Linux instance has opened the connection port. If it is not open, the corresponding connection port needs to be opened. Terminal connection (SSH) generally opens port 22, and remote desktop (RDP) opens port 3389.
Problem phenomenon
When using the Workbench tool to remotely connect to a Linux instance, an error message "Failed to log in to the instance, reason: the user name or password is incorrect" is displayed.
Problem causes
Common causes of this problem are as follows:
• Copying and pasting or manually entering an incorrect account number or password.
• The SSH configuration of the Linux instance does not allow the root user to log in.
Solution
Please refer to the following steps to troubleshoot:
• If you confirm that the user name and password you entered are correct, you can reset the instance password to set a new password. For details, see Resetting the Instance Login Password.
• If you confirm that the root user name and password you entered are correct, it may be that the root user is not allowed to log in in the SSH configuration. You can do it in any of the following ways:
1) Log in with a non-root user.
Log in to the root user through the Alibaba Cloud VNC tool.
