Abstract: In his keynote speech at the re:Invent technology conference, AWS CEO Andy Jassy elaborated on the transformation from six aspects: 1. Alignment of leadership; 2. Depth and breadth of technology; 3. Modernization of architecture and applications; 4. Use data at scale; 5. Use machine learning to innovate; 6. Break through the barriers of cloud migration.

Today we’re going to talk about modernizing your architecture and applications through cloud migration.

Four megatrends

Migration is an important topic that cannot be avoided when an enterprise realizes transformation by going to the cloud. Migration is to improve the agility of enterprise information architecture and applications, thereby helping enterprises to innovate and develop rapidly; migration is also to improve the level of enterprise globalization and digitization. There are four main trends we see from companies undergoing transformation to modernize architecture and applications through cloud migration.

The first trend, customers want to get rid of the mainframe as soon as possible. Because mainframes are not only very complex and expensive, slow, use old languages, and have outdated tools, it's also hard to find technicians with mainframe programming and operations skills these days.

The second trend is that customers are moving away from older commercial relational databases (such as Oracle and SQL Server) in favor of open engines (such as MySQL, Postgres, and MariaDB) to gain database freedom. AWS built the cloud-native Amazon Aurora, which is compatible with MySQL and PostgreSQL, and performs several times faster than typical high-end implementations in these community editions. It is at least as durable, performant, and highly available as a commercial-grade database, but at one-tenth the cost. That's why it's the fastest growing service in AWS history, with thousands of customers. In the past few years, customers have achieved cloud migration of more than 200,000 databases with the help of AWS Data Migration Service, and Amazon has also completed the migration of all Oracle-based databases to cloud services such as Amazon Aurora.

The third trend is the migration of server operating systems from Windows Server to Linux. According to IDC estimates, about 80% of deployment workloads in 2020 will be Linux workloads, and Linux is growing about 4 times faster than Windows servers. This is because customers don't want to pay for Windows software anymore, especially when they know that prices are rising frequently. The open source Linux community is more dynamic, so features and security evolve faster. Customers don't want the operating system on which they do business to be owned by one company, especially when they tend to raise prices and change licensing terms.

A fourth trend is that customers expect a large selection of technology and consulting partners when migrating to the cloud. They usually work with a different system integrator (SI) than they use on-premises because they need a system integrator (SI) that is really deep on a cloud platform and has a large pool of specialized, trained professionals on that platform . AWS provides an active and broad community of technical and consulting partners who specialize in AWS services and apply their technology to AWS, which is highly valued by customers around the world. The AWS Partner Network (APN) brings together thousands of System Integrators (SIs) and tens of thousands of Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) who choose AWS because of its significant market leadership.

Seven small trends

In addition to the above four major migration trends, we will also see seven smaller trends: 1. Cloud migration of data storage and analysis; 2. Cloud migration of backup centers and disaster recovery centers; 3. Cloudization of terminal applications; 4. IoT applications to the cloud; 5. Further virtualization through VMWare deployed on AWS; 6. Migrating SAP workloads to the cloud; 7. Migrating customer service call centers to Amazon Connect. Through these migrations, enterprises can effectively repay technical debt and improve the modernization level of information architecture and applications.

APN partners help customers migrate to the cloud
Shanghai Hande Information Technology Co., Ltd. ("Hande" for short) is an early localized ERP consulting and implementation company established in China. In April 2019, Hande obtained the AWS Managed Service Provider (AWS MSP) qualification certification and officially became a member of the APN Partner Network that has obtained this certification.

Envision Energy (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. is the world's leading provider of smart energy technology solutions. In June 2016, Envision Energy and Hand Information signed the "Envision Energy ERP&BW Production System AWS Migration Purchase Contract", and started the development of Envision Energy's SAP ERP and SAP BI, and migrated to the AWS cloud after the development was completed.

With the help of Hand, Pioneer Electronics (China) Investment Co., Ltd. migrated its SAP ECC 6.0 ERP system, which was originally deployed in the Japanese computer room, to the AWS China region. It took less than 3 hours to migrate 100+G data from Japan IDC to Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) in AWS China region; the downtime of the official migration system was less than 6 hours. After the migration, the total cost of ownership of the system has dropped by 50%; SAP performance has been improved (access speed, operation speed); and China's regulatory compliance has been better achieved.

Sichuan Zhixing Zhicheng Technology Co., Ltd. (referred to as: Zhixing Zhicheng or Actwill) is an advanced consulting partner of APN (AWS Partner Network) and obtained the official AWS Migration Competency on November 27, 2018. ".

In 2018, with the help of Zhixingzhicheng, the grassroots Zhiben under New Hope Group, completed the development, testing, production and operation and maintenance environment of enterprise-level SAP S/4HANA EPR on the AWS public cloud, using SD-WAN technology The established safe and high-speed network provides software services to more than 30 branches, production design, and warehouses across the country.

In 2019, Zhixing Zhicheng helped Tongwei Co., Ltd. to use AWS public cloud to build an enterprise-level hybrid cloud, extend private cloud computing capabilities, and effectively cope with peak computing pressures such as monthly settlement; Two-way protection under the cloud, the overall disaster recovery switching time is less than 30 minutes, and the start-up cost of disaster recovery construction is reduced to zero.

Sichuan Kelun Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. ("Kelun Pharmaceutical" for short) is a highly specialized and innovative pharmaceutical group with an annual sales revenue of more than 40 billion yuan, including Sichuan Kelun Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Sichuan Kelun Pharmaceutical Research More than 100 companies at home and abroad, including Klus Pharma Inc. (Kelun, USA), KAZ Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. (Kelun, Kazakhstan), Sichuan Klus Pharmaceutical Trading Co., Ltd. When Kelun Pharmaceutical decided to use SAP's solution to upgrade the ERP system, due to the tight implementation time of the SAP project, reducing enterprise infrastructure investment through cloud deployment became Kelun Pharmaceutical's best choice. After comprehensive consideration of service capability, cost and security, Kelun Pharmaceutical finally chose AWS, and chose Sichuan Zhixingzhicheng Technology Co., Ltd., a senior partner of APN, for service deployment and technical support, and successfully realized SAP ERP The system is deployed on the cloud.

Dr. Werner Vogels, CTO of Amazon, pointed out that a good modern architecture has five characteristics: operational excellence, security and compliance, high reliability, high performance, and cost optimization. By migrating to the cloud, a modern good architecture can be realized, and modern applications can be supported with modern architecture, and the transition from monolithic applications to microservices can make full use of containers and serverless architectures. Improve automation and management, and enable continuous improvement and deployment through DevOps, so that innovation can be transformed with agility, accelerated business development, and improved customer satisfaction.
