This topic provides an overview of the two billing methods supported by ApsaraDB for Cassandra, which are pay-as-you-go billing and subscription billing. Subscription billing is more cost-effective than pay-as-you-go billing. We recommend that you choose subscription billing for long-term use.

Pay-as-you-go billing is suitable for testing. After you determine the configuration required for your business, you can change the billing method from pay-as-you-go to subscription in the ApsaraDB for Cassandra console.

Billing method Description Remarks
Subscription
  • You must pay the subscription fee when you create an instance.
  • A one-year subscription period gives a 15% discount. You receive large discounts for longer subscription periods.
  • You can upgrade or downgrade the configuration of a subscription instance within its subscription period, but cannot release the instance.
  • Subscription billing cannot be converted to pay-as-you-go billing.
Pay-as-you-go
  • The billing cycle is one hour. The usage of your subscription instance is billed in increments of one hour, with a minimum of one hour.
  • If you change the storage capacity of your subscription instance within a billing cycle, you are billed based on the largest storage capacity used during that billing cycle. For example, if the storage capacity of your subscription instance is 1 GB at 01:10 and you change it to 8 GB at 01:20 and then to 2 GB at 01:50 within the billing cycle of 01:00 to 02:00, you are billed based on the storage capacity of 8 GB for that billing cycle.
  • In most cases, the system generates a bill within one to three hours after a billing cycle ends. For example, the system generates a bill before 11:00 for the billing cycle of 09:00 to 10:00. The actual time your bill is generated may vary.
  • After the system generates a bill, it automatically deducts the amount from your account balance.
  • You can release your pay-as-you-go instance at any time. After you release your pay-as-you-go instance, you are no longer billed for it.
  • Pay-as-you-go billing can be converted to subscription billing. You are billed based on subscription billing immediately after the conversion is complete. For more information, see the description about subscription billing.
  • You can create up to 10 pay-as-you-go ApsaraDB for Cassandra instances by using your Alibaba Cloud account. If you want to create more than 10 instances or create instances with a larger storage capacity or higher specifications than the default values, submit a ticket.

Take note of the following:

  • Your ApsaraDB for Cassandra instance is charged based on the storage capacity you choose when you create the instance. For example, if you create an instance with a storage capacity of 2 GB, you must pay for 2 GB of storage even if you only store 256 MB of data.
  • The internal traffic you consume is free of charge. Therefore, you are not charged for the data transmission between an ECS instance and an ApsaraDB for Cassandra instance.
  • If you want to store a large volume of data, contact us to receive discounts.
