If the number of your active shards exceeds the free quota, rental fees are incurred.
Simple Log Service allows you to read data from and write data to active shards. You are charged for active shards based on the number of used active shards and rental periods. For more information about the prices of active shards, see Simple Log Service pricing.
By default, two shards are created when you create a Logstore. For more information, see Manage a Logstore.
The following table describes the billing examples of active shards based on billing methods.
Monthly free quota (shards × days)
Number of active shards
Rental period per shard
Total usage (shards × days)
If you rent one active shard for 31 days, the total usage is 31 shards × days. No rental fees are incurred in the current month.
If you rent two active shards for 31 days, the total usage is 62 shards × days. You can use the shards for free on the first 15 days of the current month. Rental fees are incurred on the 16th day.
If you rent four active shards for 31 days, the total usage is 124 shards × days. You can use the shards for free on the first seven days of the current month. Rental fees are incurred on the 8th day.
You cannot enjoy the monthly free quota if you use the subscription billing method. Therefore, Rental fees are incurred every day.
Each shard supports data writing of 5 MB/s and data reading of 10 MB/s. If the total data traffic of used shards is less than the maximum read and write capabilities of a shard, we recommend that you merge shards. The merged shard is inactive and no rental fees are incurred. For more information, see Merge shards.
