Elastic IP addresses (EIPs) support the following types of lines: BGP (Multi-ISP) and BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro. The two types support the pay-as-you-go and subscription billing methods.

Note
  • All regions support BGP (Multi-ISP) EIPs.
  • BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro EIPs are supported only in the China (Hong Kong), Japan (Tokyo), Singapore, Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Philippines (Manila), Indonesia (Jakarta), and Thailand (Bangkok) regions. BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro EIPs in the Japan (Tokyo), Singapore, Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Philippines (Manila), Indonesia (Jakarta), and Thailand (Bangkok) region support only the pay-as-you-go billing method.

Metering methods for Internet data transfer

EIPs support the subscription and pay-as-you-go billing methods. The billing methods support different metering methods for Internet data transfer. Different metering method is suitable for different scenarios. You can select a metering method based on your business requirements.
Billing methodMetering method for Internet data transferScenario
Pay-as-you-goPay-by-data-transfer
  • Scenarios in which traffic fluctuates, such as the gaming and video industries.
  • Scenarios that require temporary use of resources.

If you cannot estimate the traffic usage, we recommend that you select the pay-by-data-transfer metering method.

Pay-by-bandwidth
  • Scenarios in which traffic is stable.
  • Scenarios that require temporary use of resources.
SubscriptionPay-by-bandwidth
  • Scenarios in which the usage period of resources can be estimated.
  • Scenarios in which traffic is stable.
  • Scenarios that require long-term use of resources. (In these scenarios, the subscription billing method is more cost-effective.)

Billable items

The billable items vary based on the metering method. The following figure shows the billable items.Billable items
Billable itemDescriptionReferences
Internet data transfer fee
  • Bandwidth fee: You are charged based on the specified maximum bandwidth value, regardless of the actual data transfer.
    • If you use the subscription billing method, you are charged based on the specified maximum bandwidth and the subscription duration.
    • If you use the pay-as-you-go billing method and the pay-by-bandwidth metering method, you are charged based on the specified maximum bandwidth and the usage duration.
  • Data transfer fee: If you use the pay-as-you-go billing method and the pay-by-data-transfer metering method, you are charged based on the data transfer over the Internet per hour.
EIP configuration fee (not charged when specific conditions are met)You are charged EIP configuration fees for pay-as-you-go EIPs. You are not charged an EIP configuration fee for an EIP when the following conditions are met: The EIP is associated with an elastic container instance or an Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance that resides in a virtual private cloud (VPC). The number of EIPs that your Alibaba Cloud account can own does not exceed 2,000.
Note
  • If EIPs are associated with an ECS instance through an ENI, you are still charged an EIP configuration fee. If the EIPs are directly associated with an ECS instance, the preceding rule takes effect.
  • For more information about how to associate an EIP with an elastic container instance, see Method 1: Associate an EIP with an elastic container instance.
  • By default, you can apply for at most 20 EIPs with each Alibaba Cloud account. You can go to the Quota Management page to view the maximum number of EIPs that you can apply for. For more information, see Manage EIP quotas.
EIP configuration fees
EIP association fee (not charged when specific conditions are met)
Whether you are charged an EIP association fee is determined by the number of times that you associate EIPs in each region with each Alibaba Cloud account.
Important If you first purchased EIPs after 00:00:00 (UTC+8) on January 15, 2020, you are charged an EIP association fee. If you purchased EIPs before 00:00:00 (UTC+8) on January 15, 2020, you are not charged an EIP association fee.
You are not charged an association fee if the number of times that you associate EIPs in each region with each account within one calendar day does not exceed five times the quota. If the number of times is greater than five times the quota, you are charged at USD 0.149 per time for the extra times. Association fees are calculated and bills are generated on a daily basis.
Note The quota is equal to the default number of EIPs that your Alibaba Cloud account can own. For more information about how to view quotas, see View and manage quotas.

For example, if your account can own up to 20 EIPs, you can associate EIPs 100 times in each region within one calendar day free of charge. If the number of times is greater than 100, you are charged at USD 0.149 per time for the extra times. You are charged USD 0.149 for the 101th time that you associate an EIP. If you associate EIPs 110 times, you are charged USD 1.49 for the extra times.

Billing cycle

The following table describes the billing cycles of EIPs.
Billing cycleFee deduction time and bill generation timeBillable item
HourlyA bill is generated 1 hour after a billing cycle ends. The system determines the time when bills are generated.
DailyA bill is generated in the early hours of the next day. The system determines the time when bills are generated.
MonthlyA bill is generated on the first day of the next calendar month after a billing cycle ends. The system determines the time when bills are generated. Internet data transfer fee: Bandwidth fees for subscription EIPs

For more information about the pricing of each billable item, see Subscription and Pay-as-you-go. The prices on the buy page in the EIP console prevails.
