Cloud Shell:FAQ

Last Updated:Jun 21, 2023

Cloud Shell is a command line tool that helps you manage Alibaba Cloud resources and services. Cloud Shell is free of charge. However, if you use permanent storage space for Cloud Shell, you are charged for the actual storage usage.

Is Cloud Shell secure?

Yes, Cloud Shell provides various measures to ensure security.

  • Security of virtual machines (VMs)

When you start Cloud Shell, a VM is created. The VM instance of each user is isolated and cannot be accessed by other users. When you close Cloud Shell, the VM is destroyed.

  • Authorization and authentication

When you log on to Cloud Shell, Cloud Shell verifies the validity of your identity and the management permissions of your logon account by using Resource Access Management (RAM). The management permissions you have configured in RAM remain valid. You do not need to configure management permissions independently.

  • Operation security

You can manage cloud resources by calling API operations. API requests are encrypted by using HTTPS and can prevent replay attacks.

Does Cloud Shell support RAM users?

Yes, you can log on to Cloud Shell as a RAM user. Cloud Shell authenticates the RAM user based on the management permissions you have configured in RAM. If the RAM user passes the authentication, you do not need to authorize the RAM user independently.

Why does the timeout message frequently appear?

If you do not enter commands for 30 minutes, Cloud Shell releases your VM to prevent resource idleness. After you click OK in the message, Cloud Shell allocates a new VM to you.

Can I delete the mount target of a NAS file system?

No, you cannot manually delete the mount target of a NAS file system. You can submit a ticket or join the DingTalk group 11695023429. The group name is OpenAPI Explorer - On-duty group 3.

What are the limits for using Cloud Shell?
