This topic describes how to create volume replication schedule.

Step 1: Navigation

Workflow > Volume Replication Schedule > Run.

Step 2: Select a device

Select a connected device from the drop-down menu.

Step 3: Create a volume replication pair

  • Replication pair name: name the replication task.
  • Type: In synchronous mode, the host writes data to both the source and the target volumes. In asynchronous mode, all host I/O operations are made to the source volume, allowing for higher bandwidth and optimized performance.
  • Asynchronous volume replication mode: New data is buffered and written in batches later to reduce the I/O load. If you enable volume replication, the source volume is only replicated to the target volume once. After this replication, any modifications to the source volume are not saved to the target volume.
  • Incremental recovery: The new data written to the target volume during the down time is gradually replicated to the source volume.
  • Data compression: If the bandwidth is not enough for asynchronous remote mirroring, the data compression process is performed. Data compression can reduce the amount of input and output data. Since this option consumes additional computing power, the performance of the subsystem is affected.
  • Remote timeout threshold: The remote timeout threshold option prevents remote replication pairs from being disconnected when the network between the source and target is unstable or too slow. You can select the controller wait time (timeout period). With a long timeout period, the replication pair has better data integrity and does not affect host performance. The reverse is also true: the shorter the timeout, the lower the impact, and the higher the risk of a disconnected pair. This option applies only to remote replication pairs.
    • Enable: If no network connection is available within the timeout period, the controller will disconnect or end the volume mirroring.
    • Disable: Host I/O may be severely affected when the network connection is unstable.
  • Source storage pool: Specifies the location of source volume in the storage pool.
  • Source volume: Specifies the source volume from which data is replicated.
  • Target device: Specifies the device location where the replicated data will be restored.
  • Target storage pool: Specifies the storage pool location where the replicated data will be restored.
  • Target volume: Creates a new volume to restore replicated data.
  • Priority: Selects the priority of replication task processing.

Step 4: Schedule (for asynchronous mirroring and volume replication only)

If you select the asynchronous mirroring or volume replication option, the schedule option appears.

Asynchronous mirroring: Specifies the start time and interval for the system to run the asynchronous mirroring task.

Volume replication: Specifies the time for the system to perform volume replication tasks.
