:What do I do if errors are reported when I update a Windows operating system?

This topic describes the errors that may be reported when you update a Windows operating system and the solutions to the errors.

8024400A and 80072EE2 errors reported

Problem description

When you update a Windows operating system, the following error information is returned:

8024400A
80072EE2

Causes

When you update a Windows operating system, the 8024400A and 80072EE2 errors occur and cause the system update to fail. The errors may occur because of the following reasons:

  • 8024400A: The Windows Update server is busy processing requests.

  • 80072EE2: The Windows Update server may be overloaded with requests.

Solutions

Use the following solutions to resolve the errors:

Solution to the 8024400A error

Update the Windows operating system later.

Solution to the 80072EE2 error

Perform the following steps:

  1. Disable the Windows Update service.

  2. Delete the temporary update file.

  3. Enable the Windows Update service and re-update the operating system.

80070008 or 8007000e error reported

Problem description

When you update a Windows operating system, a 80070008 or 8007000e error is reported. The following common error codes may appear when the issue occurs:

  • WindowsUpdate_80070008

  • 0x80070008

  • WindowsUpdate_8007000e

  • 0x8007000e

Cause

The issue may occur because your computer runs out of memory when you attempt to update the Windows operating system.

Solution

To resolve the issue, run Windows Update Troubleshooter. Windows Update Troubleshooter is a built-in tool that is used to identify and resolve issues about Windows updates. For more information about the tool, see Windows Update Troubleshooter.

If Windows Update Troubleshooter cannot resolve the issue, perform the following steps:

  1. Disable all programs, including the programs that are running in the background, such as firewalls, anti-spyware, web accelerators, Internet security or anti-virus programs, and proxy servers. Then, re-update the Windows operating system.

  2. After the Windows operating system is updated, enable the firewalls, anti-virus programs, or other security programs that you disable. Enable other programs that are disabled based on your needs.
