This topic describes how to resolve the issue that an Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance enters the Stopping state after the password of the instance is reset in the ECS console.
Problem description
An instance enters the Stopping state after the password of the instance is reset in the ECS console.
Cause
The Stopping state is a normal lifecycle state of the instance.
Solution
After you reset the password of an instance in the ECS console, you must restart the instance. When you restart the instance in the ECS console, API operations are called to stop the services that are running on the instance, stop the operating system of the instance, and then start the operating system and the services. When the operating system is started, the state of the instance changes from Running, to Stopping, to Starting, and then to Running in the ECS console within 10 to 15 minutes.
