:What do I do if operations are slow on a Windows Server 2003 instance after I connect to the instance?

Last Updated:Jun 01, 2023

After you connect to an instance that runs Windows Server 2003 by using Virtual Network Computing (VNC), you can perform operations on the instance as smoothly as expected. However, after you connect to the instance by using other methods, applications are started slowly and websites are opened slowly on the instance. This topic describes how to resolve this issue.

Description

After you connect to an instance that runs Windows Server 2003 by using VNC, you can perform operations on the instance as smoothly as expected. However, after you connect to the instance by using other methods, applications are started slowly and websites are opened slowly on the instance.

Cause

The Offload.Tx.LSO parameter is set to Enabled for the network interface controller (NIC) that is used.

Solutions

You can use one of the following solutions to resolve the issue based on the actual conditions:

Solution 1: Replace the operating system

Alibaba Cloud no longer provides technical support for Windows Server 2003 images. We recommend that you use Windows Server 2012 or later instead to prevent the issue. For information about how to replace the operating system of an instance, see Replace the operating system (system disk) of an instance.

Warning

An operating system replacement operation replaces a system disk. After the operating system is replaced, the original system disk is released and all data stored on the disk is cleared. Before you replace the operating system of the instance, we recommend that you create a snapshot of the system disk to back up data. For information about how to create a snapshot, see Snapshot overview.

Solution 2: Change the value of Offload.Tx.LSO to Disabled for the NIC

To change the value of Offload.Tx.LSO to Disabled for the NIC involved, perform the following operations:

  1. Connect to the instance.

For more information, see Connection methods.

  2. Open Control Panel and click Network and Internet.

  3. Click View network status and tasks. Then, in the left-side navigation pane, click Change adapter settings.

  4. Right-click the NIC that you want to manage and select Properties. Then, click Configure.

  5. Click the Advanced tab and configure the Offload.Tx.LSO parameter.

Select Offload.Tx.LS in the Property section and then select Disabled from the Value drop-down list.

  6. Click OK to save the configurations.
